What is the role?

The Branch Manager is a relationship-driven frontline leader, responsible for maintaining a positive, highly motivated, and well-trained branch that provides superior member service and promotes member financial success. This role is committed to upholding a strong and engaged culture, through effective coaching, leadership, proactive problem-solving, and networking. What will be expected of me?

  • Accountable for overall branch sales, service, and operational performance, while driving the Westerra Experience (WX), ensuring branch staff adoption of recent technologies (digital banking, MRM system, ITM’s, and other TBD technologies as needed)
  • Responsible for driving a high-performance culture, by helping to create and execute branch and role specific goals tied to the data insights, budget, and strategic objectives
  • Responsible for driving engagement and retention of staff
  • Develops partnerships with community entities; organizes and attends events for business development purposes
  • Actively observes staff interactions with Members, and coaches them on Member Service behaviors and recognizing opportunities to help the Member succeed financially
  • Ensures branch operations run efficiently by overseeing and monitoring scheduling, security, cash and vault management, expenses and general ledgers, equipment, adherence to policies and procedures, service quality, and audits
  • Interviews and selects candidates for the branch network and ensures a rich onboarding experience for new hires
  • Maintains knowledge of products and services, as well as industry trends, and educates members and employees on emerging technology and digital solutions such as mobile, online, ATM and other offerings
  • As needed, will assist members with transactional needs according to established processes and service standards, including answering member inquiries and issue resolution
  • Consistently demonstrates the Westerra Way Experience and complies with all policies, procedures and Federal and State laws and regulations
  • Maintains high level of confidentiality
  • Provides input for department’s annual budget
  • Obtains NMLS (National Mortgage Licensing System) registration within 30 days of hire
  • Obtains and maintains notary public certification within six months of employment (if not already certified) to perform notarial acts such as verifying signatures, administering oaths, and certifying documents

What I’m bringing…
Experience/Education:


External Candidates:

  • 6+ years’ experience working in customer service with at least 3 of those years in financial services
  • 3+ years’ experience in a leadership role or in a demonstrated leadership capacity.
  • 2+ years’ consumer lending experience or equivalent (preferred)

Internal Candidates:

  • 1+ year serving as an ABM or similar role 
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities listed


Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to understand and respond to member needs, as well as consistently make recommendations to members on Westerra products that will fit their financial needs/goals/values
  • Ability to motivate and coach team members
  • Ability to drive sales through a consultative approach
  • Strong understanding of branch operations, processes, and procedures.
  • Can navigate with ease and efficiency through key Westerra Systems/Sites
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Accountable for multiple processes or programs 
  • Routinely uses significant judgment on moderate to complex business problems
  • Advanced understanding of functional area and a competent understanding of the overall organization and competitive environment.
  • Able to influence timelines, expectations, and proactively negotiate across departments 
  • Able to influence others outside of own job area regarding policies, practices, and procedures

What is the work environment like, and are there physical requirements for this role?

  • Mon-Fri:  On location in the branch (Saturdays on rotation)
  • Occasionally:  Off-site at business development or community events; may require weekend and/or evening shifts offset by branch schedule
  • Works primarily at standing/sitting desk
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds     

Salary: in addition to the starting annual range of $69,825 - $87,281, this role is also eligible for Westerra’s self-funding reward plan. This plan pays out a cash incentive annually if the company hits specific criteria tied to our financial goals and you will have a direct impact on the outcome of those results!
