The Day Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Operation of the plant during start-up, shutdown and normal operation from the central control room. DCS monitoring and alarm handling.
 - Diagnose and make safe, or where possible rectify, plant faults.
 - Ensure plant defects are reported within the CMMS.
 - Testing plant emergency and non-emergency equipment.
 - The application, removal and testing of process isolations.
 - Supervising third party operations including offloading of fuel, process chemical consumables and cleaning operations.
 - Continuous personal development within the organisation to achieve continual improvements.
 - Report any potential safety issues and control any hazards as required.
 - Support and participate in the development and review of Operational processes, including associated Operational Procedures and Supporting Documentation.
 - Work as part of a team striving for continual improvement in minimising Health & Safety and Environmental risks at the plant.
 - Record and report any impacts or potential impacts on the environment to the Shift Manager.
 - Support Shift Operations as required.
 - Successfully achieve and complete the Operator development programme within the timescale agreed.
 
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Possess ONC / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in engineering or plant processing.
 - Possess a good understanding of plant operation, preferably at a large power plant, from a central control room and out in the field. Including operating plant with a good understanding of safety and environmental compliance.
 - Tanker loading and offloading experience.
 - Experience of weight bridges and material sampling
 - Have power plant DCS operational experience within a central control room environment.
 - Experience of using IT systems associated with a power plant environment.
 - Good communicational skills in English are required at all levels; both verbally and written.
 - Ability to attain a Forklift Truck License.
 - Understanding of a Safe Systems of Work i.e. plant isolations and safety documents, Permit to Work.
 - Ability to interpret and update Piping and Instrument Diagrams.
 - Have a willingness to operate flexibly over a wide range of work areas.
 - Ability to think logically and solve problems effectively and efficiently.
