Position Summary: 

Oversees the Volunteer Experience across all KFB Counties: inspire and cultivate volunteers to become long-term supporters by fostering a deeper understanding of KFB’s mission and impact, while equipping them to be advocates for KFB’s mission within the community. Collaborate with Philanthropy to grow sustainable financial support from volunteers.

Since 2002, Kids’ Food Basket has grown from serving 125 students in Kent County to providing 11,000 meals every weekday to 62 schools in Kent, Muskegon, Ottawa and Allegan counties through our flagship Sack Supper program. Access to good food is the foundation of good health, and we combine this access with education and agriculture to create lasting changes in our community.

Kids’ Food Basket’s educational programming connects learners to where healthy food comes from and why it matters. We use our sustainable farmland as experiential classrooms to create meaningful educational experiences and host community volunteerism that connect us to each other. Through these efforts, our farms provide thousands of servings of fresh produce to underserved neighbors in West Michigan. Together, we are working toward a more nourished future. 


Job Responsibilities:

1. Communicates, collaborates and partners with leaders and staff to identify and implement best practices for strategic volunteer growth and support.

2. Leads and manages Volunteer Experience staff across all KFB locations, identifying opportunities for growth and program efficiencies.

3. Provide strategy and execution to advance Volunteer Experience program, including sustainable financial support from the volunteer base.

4. Develops and facilitates the Skilled Volunteer program, coordinating with the appropriate KFB function.

5. Collaborates with Philanthropy Team to develop and progress corporate partners, organizations and new community opportunities including volunteering and financial support.

6. Develops and facilitates volunteer feedback evaluate data to enhance volunteer experience and relationships with KFB.

7. Leverages and utilizes Volunteer Hub, Raiser’s Edge, and other software for efficient and effective operations and volunteer development.

8. Represent KFB at community/recruitment events/engagements promoting volunteer opportunities, educating on mission, guest speaking, including relationships with colleges through intern fairs.

9. Collaborates with Philanthropy to develop and execute an annual volunteer communication plan.

10. Performs other duties as assigned. 


Supervision Received:

General Direction: Plans and arranges own work. Uses a wide range  of procedures to accomplish assigned objectives.


Supervisory Responsibilities:  

· Sr. Manager, Volunteers


Education and Experience:

· Bachelor’s degree required.

· Ten (10) or more years of relevant experience.

· Four (4) or more years of supervisory experience.

· Valid driver’s license.


Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

· Experience with CRM or donor database. Raiser’s Edge preferred.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Comfortable speaking in front of groups, making presentations, and leading groups.

· Ability to solve problems, analyze systems and data, and make suggestions for improvement.

· Thorough knowledge of development. 

· Knowledge on how to build, interpret, and manage budgets.

· Ability to work evenings and weekends on a regular basis.

· A sense of optimism and an assets-based way of viewing people and situations.

· Use data/metrics to inform growth opportunities and develop actionable measures, continuously refining and optimizing engagement strategies.

· Ability to effectively interact with a diverse population from a variety of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

· Have a desire to develop a basic understanding of hunger and poverty issues in West Michigan.

· Normal office environment: No exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise or chemicals or hazardous equipment. More than 5hours 

· Warehouse environment: Exposure to dust, warehouse equipment, varied temperatures, and noise. On Occasion 

· Farm: Regular and continuous exposure to outside elements such as weather, animals, insects, etc. On Occasion 

· Travel: Limited exposure to outside elements. Less than 2 hours
