SCO Family of Services is looking for a Payroll Assistant to join our team in Garden City, NY.
*This is a hybrid position; the employee is expected to be in office at least 1x per week
* The pay rate for this position is $27.47 per hour
Essential Job Functions:
- Answer and resolve telephone, email, and other form of request on Payroll matters
 - Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests.
 - Gathering and examining timesheets to ensure their validity
 - Preparing and distributing hard copy or electronic paychecks as needed
 - Performing all tasks well before the pay run to ensure that staff members are compensated and notified on time.
 - Addressing queries about payroll-related issues.
 - Working to resolve discrepancies in payments as a matter of urgency.
 - Research time & attendance data to review/respond on questions from employees & managers
 - Participate on Payroll team discussions that will identify, recommendation and implement process improvement opportunities to enhance delivery of time & attendance services to employees
 - Must be able to establish and maintain a strong partnership and communication with HR, UKG, Legal, Finance and other HR direct process teams while supporting Payroll initiatives
 - Assist Payroll Manager and Assistant Payroll Manager in best practice of Payroll communication to Managers, including resending created topic memos, as needed
 - Resolves payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information and interacting with HR.
 - Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.
 - Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures, and reporting needed changes.
 
Qualifications:
- Degree in Human Resource, Business, Finance and/or Accounting preferred but not required.
 - Understand the employment law and regulatory guidelines related to labor practices and time/attendance activities or willing to learn;
 - Handle challenging situations with diplomacy & tact;
 - Work independently, accurately and meet deadlines;
 - Analyze data to identify and resolve issues;
 - Well-developed problem-solving skills;
 - Knowledge of UKG WFC and/or Dimensions or equivalent time and attendance system a plus;
 - Maintain confidentiality with highly sensitive information and adhere to data privacy and internal compliance requirements;
 - Strong organizations skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure & maintain a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment;
 - Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills;
 - Work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with other functions;
 - Flexible to work extended hours as necessary, including during weekly peak payroll processing days;
 - Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) knowledge.
