Job Description:

About the position:

We are looking to hire Actuarial / Data Scientist Interns to join the Valuation team in Paris, reporting to an allocated Valuation Actuary and specializing in either Longevity, Long Term Protection, GMDB/Financial Solutions or Short Term Protection. One intern for each line of business. It will be either a:

  • 3 months internship followed by a 1 year apprenticeship or
  • 6 months year-break or end-of-study internship

We are looking for an intern with R modelling skills who seeks challenges and has a desire to learn about new products, markets and approaches. You wish to work in a dynamic and culturally diverse environment with colleagues possessing a wide and varied range of experiences.

 

Key responsibilities:

In this role you will be responsible for several topics which may involve:

  • Automating bordereaux compilation and generating reports on treaty performance
  • Expanding existing R frameworks for modelling and reporting
  • Conducting actuarial experience studies in respect of mortality on client portfolios in order to improve our internal modelling
  • Adoption of new valuation software (R/PowerQuery/PowerBI).
  • Using the results of experience studies to update actuarial projections in respect of PartnerRe’s statutory accounting and economic reporting requirements
  • Working on the implementation of several projects
  • Supporting reporting activity in different metrics (LDTI US GAAP, FR GAAP, Solvency 2)
Qualifications:

Technical skills/competencies:

To be successful in the role you will need to be familiar with programming in R as well as with actuarial techniques such as the application of decrements, discounting and the derivation and comparison of present values.

  • Strong proficiency in R programming language, data manipulation and visualization, including tidyverse packages. Experience with R Markdown and/or R Shiny is a plus
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Experience using VBA is a plus
  • Experience with SQL and databases in general is a plus

Behavioural skills:

  • Well-organized, proactive, creative and solution-oriented
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex technical topics to non-technical audiences
  • Fluency in French and English, both written and spoken skills are necessary
  • Highly motivated, openness for continuous improvement

Work experience:

  • Solid knowledge of GAAP accounting standards
  • Prior experience with NAIC statutory accounting and reporting is considered an asset

Education:

  • ​​​​​​​Graduated from or currently enrolled in a relevant university program in data science, statistics, mathematics, actuarial science, or a related field.

Professional qualifications or Designations:

  • Making progress towards qualifying as an Actuary
