Responsibilities:
  • 1. In conjunction with Director of Psychiatric Nursing and Vice Chief of Psychiatry (or designee): develops, maintains and improves a work environment that is patient focused and meets the needs of staff and referring physicians Develops, maintains, and fosters the important collaborative relationship between PAs/NPs and their collaborating MD/DO in accordance with the scope of practice as provided by Connecticut statute and Yale New Haven Hospital medical staff by-laws. Provides supervision and management for all PAs and NPs regarding scheduling and PTO requests. Involves collaborating physicians and/or the Vice Chief of Psychiatry (or designee) as necessary in annual hospital HR review processes and identification of individual measures of performance for purposes of YNHH (or NEMG if relevant) annual PIP Measures.

  • 2. Under the supervision of the Vice Chief of Psychiatry (or designee): Develops and monitors Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) standards and Focused Professional Practice Evaluations of Advanced Practice Providers. Participates in clinical case reviews when necessary, including Root Cause Analyses and, if requested, reviews requested by the psychiatric Professional Practice Evaluation Committee (Psychiatry Agent PPEC)

  • 3. Assures PA/NP compliance with HIPAA, regulatory and accreditation standards
  •  
  • 4. Acts as a liaison with HR to resolve employee problems, questions and concerns related to their benefits
  •  
  • 5. Meets regularly on a scheduled basis with other staff regarding their work relationships with APPs under their span of control.

  • 6. Acts as a role model/preceptor for NP/PA students
  •  
  • 7. When working clinically, identifies self in Epic as primary coverage person for assigned patients. Identifies self to assigned patients and their families as the NP/PA responsible for their care

  • 8. Participates in educational conferences, Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Case Conferences, and attends Yale University School of Medicine Grand Rounds, as time permits.

  • 9. Participate in APP strategic planning related to program development, system collaboration, and growth potential
  •  
  • 10. Represents psychiatry at system or local APP councils
Qualifications:

EDUCATION

 

Must have a BA or BS in appropriate field and have graduated from a certified physician assistant or nurse practitioner program. Master's degree required

 

EXPERIENCE

 

Must have at least 3-5 years as an advanced practice provider in psychiatry or behavioral health care.

 

LICENSURE

 

Must be licensed in State of CT as an advanced practice provider either as an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner or a Physicians Certification. Must hold controlled substance registration and DEA license. Must maintain certification with the appropriate governing body.

 

SPECIAL SKILLS

 

Must have excellent clinical, verbal and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, develop and lead programs, foster a positive work environment . Strong initiative and excellent leadership skills. Must support an environment of equity and inclusivity for patients and peers.

 

PHYSICAL DEMAND

 

Needs to be able to work in acute psychiatric settings with de-escalation experience
