Primary Objectives of Position:
PEAK is seeking 1 Livestock Intern to care for and perform research trials with our bull population at our Shawano, WI livestock facility. This is a hands-on experience that will include activities associated with the daily care of bulls, compiling research data, and presenting findings to company leadership. The intern will step foot into all facets of PEAK Production while developing a network and gaining an understanding of the semen production process.
Major Areas of Accountability:
- Perform daily care of the bulls which includes feeding, cleaning, animal handling, semen collection, assisting with heath testing and veterinary treatments, and other routine tasks
- Conduct detailed research trial(s) designed to optimize current livestock handling or semen collection practices
- Summarize research and present recommendations for the future based on the research trial outcomes
- Operate company farm equipment and vehicles
- Attend company intern orientation and networking events
- Explore career opportunities within PEAK and the other URUS Operating Companies
Qualifications:
- Students pursuing an education within agriculture, biology, genetics or data science
- Applicants currently attend a 2-year technical college or 4-year university
- Experience handling and working with livestock
- Passionate about agriculture and innovation
- Willingness to learn and experience new things
- Detail-oriented individual with an interest in completing an independent research project
