POSITION SUMMARY: The Volleyball Director is responsible for the overall leadership, development, and success of the volleyball programs, including youth and adult leagues, clinics, camps, and skill training. This role requires a highly motivated and experienced professional with a background in sports management, coaching, and officiating. The director will oversee program operations, staff and volunteer management, participant experience, safety, and growth strategies to establish a high-quality, inclusive volleyball environment for all skill levels.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Direct and supervise all volleyball programs (youth and adult leagues, clinics, camps, and training) to meet community needs and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  2. Establish new volleyball offerings and expand existing programs in alignment with YMCA strategic and operational plans.
  3. Design age-appropriate training and skill development curriculums for participants, coaches, and staff across all levels of play.
  4. Recruit, hire, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate staff and volunteers involved in the volleyball program.
  5. Develop and implement strategies to motivate and develop staff, ensuring team engagement, high performance, and strong alignment with YMCA values.
  6. Enforce all safety procedures and risk management protocols to provide a safe environment for participants, staff, and spectators.
  7. Oversee the scheduling, setup, and maintenance of volleyball facilities and equipment; ensure proper care and inventory control.
  8. Evaluate programs regularly to ensure high quality, participant satisfaction, and continuous improvement.
  9. Develop and maintain strong relationships with local schools, clubs, sports organizations, and community stakeholders to grow participation and promote the program.
  10. Collaborate with YMCA marketing staff to effectively promote volleyball programs through digital platforms, printed materials, and community outreach.
  11. Maintain accurate records related to registration, attendance, incidents, feedback, and performance metrics.
  12. Create and oversee the volleyball program budget. Monitor financial performance, control expenses, and adjust operations to meet revenue goals.
  13. Participate in YMCA fundraising efforts, including the annual campaign, to support program accessibility and community outreach.
  14. Ensure excellent customer service and relationship-building with all participants, families, and community members.
  15. Provide regular updates to YMCA leadership and participate in staff meetings and strategy sessions. Support organizational communication and transparency.
  16. Keep up with volleyball best practices, sport development trends, and YMCA programming standards.
  17. Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support the success of the YMCA Sportscenter and broader association goals.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Associate’s degree or higher in related field is preferred.
  2. Minimum 3 years of experience in volleyball program management, coaching, and/or officiating.
  3. Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple programs and staff.
  4. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  5. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  6. Able to work independently and with minimal supervision. Organized and detail oriented.
  7. Proficient in Microsoft Office 365; familiarity with sports management software a plus.
  8. Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekend, and holidays.
  9. Complete ongoing yearly compliance training.
  10. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
