Clermont Open Cut is currently seeking a Geologist to join our high performing Technical Services department onsite. Located on the western edge of the Bowen Basin, Clermont Open Cut is a high performing truck & shovel operation that produces 12 million tonnes of coal per annum. Clermont Open Cut Operation is a safe, dynamic, and inclusive workplace focused on delivering high performance outcomes. Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, this role will offer variety and opportunity to the right individual.

In this role key responsibilities will include:

• Provide geotechnical guidance where necessary to ensure compliance to the Site Strata Failure PHMP.

• Providing geological technical support to the Technical Services team and operational departments

• Geotechnical inspections and monitoring of critical infrastructure.

• Implementation of Geotechnical recommendations in mine.

• Visual identification, mitigation and management of Geotechnical hazards in the mine.

• Conducting geological and geotechnical high wall mapping and maintenance of structural database.

• Monitoring instrument installation, maintenance, data collation and interpretation of radars, prisms and piezometers.

• Collection and analyses of Geotech monitoring data for daily and monthly reporting to stakeholders.

Requirements of the role include:

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geotech Engineering

• 3 years minimum experience in Open Cut Coal Mining

• Vulcan (preferable) or similar Mining CAD Software

• Experience in Rocscience or similar slope stability software applications

• Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite

• Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain positive relationships, proactive attitude to safety, a strong work ethic, and leadership capabilities

• QLD Drivers Licence

This role requires a safety conscious candidate prepared to challenge the norm, drive continuous improvement and who can demonstrate experience in implementing best practise using a hands-on approach.
