As a member of the Golf Communications team at the PGA TOUR, this position focuses on the year-round promotion of PGA TOUR Champions, the premier competitive platform for golf’s legendary players – including 35 members of the World Golf Hall of Fame – competing for nearly $70 million across 28 events. The role connects players with the business through earned and owned media. Work with in-market tournament teams to develop PR plans that strengthen the brand identity and affinity for players and sponsors, including a number of Fortune 500 companies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field of study
  • Three years prior full-time experience in communications or public relations required
  • Prior experience in golf or sports event communications preferred
  • Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively within and across diverse groups
  • Solid organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient with MS Office Software applications
  • A professional image, willingness to travel, and ability to work as a team is essential
  • Proficient writer, editor, idea pitcher and public speaker
  • Experienced in social media applications

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

  • Represent PGA TOUR Golf Communications in support of year-round promotion of players, tournaments and sponsors on PGA TOUR Champions.
  • Develop, manage and execute PR plans and strategies for 14-16 events annually to ensure tournament and title sponsor goals are exceeded and elevated on an annual basis.
  • Serve as the liaison between in-market tournament teams and the PGA TOUR at a league level, while communicating tournament priorities across the industry.
  • Pitch stories and fulfill requests from local, national and international media who cover PGA TOUR Champions, tournaments and players.
  • Collaborate across multiple teams at the PGA TOUR – including but not limited to Tournament Business, Content, Marketing, Broadcast, Player Relations, Competitions – to ensure tournament priorities are represented and PR plans are aligned with broader business objectives.
  • Manage media access to players, competition information, press conferences and interview requests at PGA TOUR Champions events.
  • Produce competition notes after tournament rounds for distribution to local and national media, and for publication on PGA TOUR-owned platforms.
  • In support of the PGA TOUR’s programming efforts, consistently update Catalyst briefs on assigned players that enhance broadcast coverage, generate content for PGA TOUR platforms and identify opportunities through top-tier media outlets
  • Develop relationships with players, agents and media to establish a trusted working environment from which to collaborate and promote Tour initiatives and player brands.
  • Support Vice President of Communications with the development of a content strategy and assist with content creation and implementation across website and social platforms.
  • Support Vice President of Communications PGA TOUR Champions in the organization’s business communications strategy meetings and crisis communications plans.
  • Support the Tournament Business department through media value reporting.
  • Support department's Stakeholder Communications function and special assignments.
  • Special projects or other duties as assigned.
