PURPOSE OF POSITION:
IEM (Industrial Electric Mfg.) is the largest independent full-line manufacturer of custom electrical distribution and power quality equipment in North America. This position offers an exciting opportunity within an innovative and rapidly growing company with a backlog of bookings that go beyond 3 years.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Test Technician to join the team at our new IEM Power Lab facility, specializing in the testing of low and medium voltage power distribution equipment. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in a similar role, a strong mechanical aptitude and excellent attention to detail.
This role will be responsible for assembling and setting up equipment and assisting Test Engineers with conducting tests on low and medium voltage power distribution equipment. The role also includes modifying test articles, performing routine maintenance and loading, unloading and handling equipment and supplies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assemble and set up test equipment and instrumentation according to specifications and test plans.
- Assist Test Engineers in conducting tests on low and medium voltage power distribution equipment.
- Record and document test results accurately and comprehensively.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues during testing procedures.
- Assemble, disassemble and modify test articles including installing or modifying wiring and control circuits according to provided design drawings.
- Fabricate and install new parts made of steel and copper or aluminum busbar.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts to enhance testing processes and methodologies.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of testing equipment and facilities.
- Ensure a safe work environment and adhere to all applicable safety standards and protocols.
- Assist with packaging, loading and unloading of equipment and supplies.
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory area. Assist with general facility upkeep.
- Maintain a limited inventory of materials, parts and supplies necessary for testing operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D engineering, manufacturing engineering and quality teams to drive product improvements and resolve technical issues.
COMPETENCIES:
- Basic understanding of electrical principles and testing methodologies. Or the ability to learn quickly.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to interpret design drawings and electrical schematics.
- Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions and procedures.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and an ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with an ability to assemble, disassemble and modify equipment with limited instruction using a variety of hand and power tools.
- Experience fabricating metal parts using press brakes, shears, and forming/bending machines is preferred.
- Experience with safely loading, unloading and handling large equipment and machinery using sit-down lift trucks.
- Excellent computer skills and an ability to quickly learn new software tools and systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite a must.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Certification or Associate’s degree in a technical field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Test Technician or similar role in a testing, manufacturing or service environment.
- Basic knowledge of electrical principles and power distribution concepts.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift and move equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity for extended periods.
