POSITION SUMMARY
The City of Englewood is a fun, growing and exciting city of approximately 35,000 residents just to the south of Denver. We are minutes away (and have beautiful views of) the mountains.
The city also offers many recreation opportunities including a golf course, water park, 17 parks, bike paths and rail trails. The city employs approximately 750 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees who work in thirteen different departments. The city employs a Council-Manager form of government with an elected city council that sets policy and direction and appoints a city manager to coordinate the day-to-day administration of the city.
An individual will be selected to serve as the City Manager’s Office intern beginning January, with an undefined end date. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work on projects of significance, present to elected officials and senior executives, and participate in meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
What you WON’T do is spend your days making copies and filing. Everyone works as a team and administrative tasks will certainly be a part of the job, you will be hired to help move forward key initiatives in the City Manager’s Office. The specific initiatives you work on will depend on your interests and needs, but potential projects include:
- Improving government transparency and accountability- Developing and implementing a performance dashboard
- Initiating projects related to sustainability- The city recently created a sustainability program
- Intergovernmental affairs- Tracking and reporting on legislation at the state and federal level that would have a direct impact on Englewood
- Employee engagement- Developing a formal program and strategy to engage employees in clubs, committees and programs on initiatives ranging from employee engagement to diversity, equity and inclusion
- Homelessness- Implementing and tracking projects related to the Tri-Cities Homelessness Plan of Action
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Infrastructure and Transportation- protecting sewer, storm water, water and transportation infrastructure while focusing on transportation safety and multi-modal transportation
- Economy- Redeveloping City Center and a focus on workplace development, a positive business climate and business retention and entrepreneurship
- Safety- Focusing on innovation and reform and providing high-quality services and responding to emergencies
- Community Wellbeing- Focusing on high quality recreation programs, placemaking, affordability and homelessness services and mitigation
- Sustainability- Developing and implementing a new sustainability program focused on ten goal areas
- Neighborhoods- Improving neighbor to neighbor connections, community engagement and neighborhood aesthetics
- Governance- Workplace culture and developing mission, vision and values statements
PREPARATION AND TRAINING
The city is looking for someone currently enrolled in a college or university as an undergraduate or graduate student.

- Computer Skills - Strong skills needed to work within the Microsoft Office suite.
- Communication - Strong skills needed to interact with City employees, vendors, and applicants.
- Analytical - Intermediate skills needed to determine customers’ needs.
- General management - Basic skills needed to maintain and organize information.
- Must be able to work with a high level of confidentiality.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a standard office environment, requiring sitting for extended periods of time, and occasional light lifting (up to 15 lbs.). Job requires visual and physical capabilities to perform data entry, filing, and to work on computers and associated equipment for prolonged periods of time (4-6 hours daily).
HOURLY RATE
$14.81 - 20.18 Depending on experience.
