Manager, Logistics & Tooling
O’Connell Electric Company is seeking a highly organized and proactive Manager of Logistics & Tooling to oversee the day-to-day logistics operations, hand tool inventory, and ordering process. This role is critical to ensure efficient delivery and pickup of materials, equipment, and tools across job sites, the fabrication shop, and supplier locations. The ideal candidate will be skilled in planning, scheduling, and coordinating deliveries while maintaining accurate tooling inventory and supporting project needs.
This position does require frequent travel within New York State. A valid driver’s license is required.
Key Responsibilities:
Logistics Operations
- Coordinate daily deliveries to job sites, including materials from suppliers and fabricated components from the shop.
- Plan and execute pickup/drop-off of fleet equipment in collaboration with the Fleet Department.
- Schedule and manage pickup and delivery of hand tools for various projects.
- Utilize a ticketing platform to:
- Assign drivers
- Schedule delivery days
- Optimize delivery routes for efficiency
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of all materials and equipment.
- Communicate with project teams to align delivery schedules with job site needs.
- Assist in planning and execution of fleet and tooling logistics for mobilization and demobilization phases.
Shipping and Receiving:
- Coordinate and receive shipments from vendors and delivery companies. Inspect deliveries for damage while documenting delivery conditions.
- Set up and coordinate shipments with 3rd party freight companies.
Tooling Management
- Manages all hand tool requests from various project teams.
- Maintains and manages tooling inventory, ensuring availability and readiness.
- Track tool usage and returns to prevent loss and ensure accountability.
- Collaborate with vendors for tool procurement and delivery timelines.
- Meet with vendors and manufacturers on new tooling options.
- Review current pulling, threading and bending equipment as typically used by the Inside Wireman.
- Make replacement recommendations based on age, physical condition, usage and repair cost.
Required Competencies/Skills:
- Familiarity with hand tools, tooling inventory systems and procurement processes.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency with ticketing or scheduling platforms (ToolWatch, OneDesk).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with various departments/teams.
- Must demonstrate innovative thinking.
- Ability to analyze delivery routes and optimize for cost and time savings.
- Must be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Must demonstrate the ability to prioritize the work to meet tight deadlines
Minimum Requirements
- High School diploma and 5-7 years of experience in logistics coordination, preferably in construction or industrial environments.
- Must have experience with fleet management coordination
- Must have knowledge of construction materials and tools.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Compensation:
The minimum and maximum hourly rate of pay that O’Connell Electric Company, Inc. believes in good faith to be accurate for this position at the time of this posting is between $37.00 to $44.00. It is important to O’Connell Electric that potential candidates for this position understand that compensation depends on numerous factors including the geographic location where the role will be performed, skills required, experience, complexity, travel, and market rate.
