ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: May include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. PROVIDES TECHNICAL SUPPORT BY: • Designing backup strategies for infrastructure and disaster recovery plans • Maintaining district-wide email, WWW and FTP services • Diagnosing and fixing network-related problems • Installing, configuring and maintaining all networking equipment (routers, switches, hubs, etc.) and services • Planning, installing and maintaining wireless access points • Monitoring network and network performance • Installing, terminating and testing network cable • Supporting telephone system • Creating user accounts and system policies • Installing and Maintaining Windows and Unix Servers • Support Director of Technology in creation and implementation of network security policies
2. PROVIDES SUPPORT TO STAFF BY: • Training and supporting users on the use of network services and other technology resources
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Employee has none.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an employee must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. High school or college graduate; two years minimum of post-secondary coursework in technical training; five years of progressively responsible work experience which must include three years’ experience installing and maintaining network equipment, servers and computers and one year experience supporting both Microsoft Windows and Macintosh operating systems in a networked environment; knowledge and experience with telnet and command driven management of switches and routers, special knowledge, skills and abilities in computer operations and repair; designing and maintaining local and wide area networks; knowledge and experience with Windows and AIX server operating systems, verbal and written communication; working independently; excellent organizational and training skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job include sitting and working for long periods of time, standing, bending, kneeling, crawling, walking and lifting up to 75 pounds; ascending and descending a ladder, and overhead work while balancing on a ladder. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job include the classroom and offices.
