We are looking for a highly experienced Staff Full Stack Engineer with deep expertise in React, micro frontends, and design systems, as well as a strong command of backend technologies like Node.js, Java, and Go/Golang. In this role, you will be a key technical leader, responsible for driving the architecture, development, and maintenance of our most complex web applications. Your work will have a broad impact, influencing multiple teams and shaping the technical direction of the engineering department. If you are a principal-level engineer with a passion for solving large-scale technical challenges and a track record of building and scaling high-quality software, we want to hear from you!

You’ll be part of the B2B area of Lightspeed, working on a team of full stack engineers focused on modernizing the core part of the NuORDER platform. For this role, you should be located in Canada and able to work within EST/EDT hours. We offer a choice of fully remote, partially remote, or fully office-based work environments (in cities with local offices).

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop and maintain critical web applications using React, ensuring the highest standards of performance, reliability, and user experience.
  • Drive the creation and adoption of our company-wide design system, ensuring consistency and efficiency across all our products.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineering leadership to define technical roadmaps and strategy.
  • Act as a technical expert and mentor for multiple teams, providing guidance and performing meaningful code reviews to ensure code quality, efficiency, and maintainability.
  • Work with your team and other teams to integrate our web applications with third-party services and APIs.
  • Drive the adoption of best practices, new technologies, and a culture of technical excellence across the organization.
  • Take full ownership of your work, from initial concept and design through deployment and long-term maintenance.

What you need to bring:

  • 8+ years of experience as a full stack developer, with a proven track record of leading significant technical frontend projects.
  • Deep proficiency with React and the frontend ecosystem, including a strong understanding of micro frontend architecture and its implementation.
  • Extensive experience designing, building, and maintaining a design system or component library.
  • Strong proficiency with backend technologies like Node.js, Java, and Go/Golang.
  • Expertise in document-based and relational databases, including schema design, query optimization, and data migration.
  • Extensive experience with containerization and orchestration technologies like Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Deep knowledge of cloud services such as GCP, Azure, or AWS, including a strong understanding of cost optimization and security best practices.
  • Experience with serverless computing and microservices architecture.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • An extreme ownership mentality and a passion for solving complex, ambiguous problems.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a focus on long-term maintainability.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills, with a track record of influencing and mentoring other engineers.
  • Proven experience with agile development methodologies and leading technical discussions.
  • A strong understanding of software development principles, design patterns, and best practices, with the ability to apply them at a strategic level.
