The Payroll and Benefits Manager is responsible for managing Izzio Artisan Bakery’s payroll processing, benefits administration, and Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS). This role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with relevant laws and regulations, efficient benefits administration, proper accounting of payroll and benefit transactions, and the effective use of HRIS for data management and reporting. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Benefits and Payroll Administratio

  • Process payroll and ensure employee reporting and payroll activities are completed and payroll is accurate.
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws.
  • Respond to payroll inquiries from employees and resolve any payroll-related issues.  Assist employees with benefits-related inquiries and claims issues.
  • Administer benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, retirement plans, wellness initiatives, and ancillary benefits. 
  • Plan and conduct monthly and annual benefit enrollment, including communication, education, and system updates. 
  • Manage and coordinate with HR, leave of absence programs, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, and company leave policies.

Accounting & Reconciliation

  • Post payroll-related journal entries and ensure accurate expense allocation across departments.
  • Prepare and reconcile payroll month-end accruals. 
  • Review, reconcile, and process benefit vendor invoices to ensure accurate billing and timely payment.


HRIS Management  

  • Oversee the maintenance and integrity of employee files and data, ensuring accurate data entry, system updates, and user access.
  • Create and maintain workflows for HR processes, including benefits enrollment, onboarding, and employee changes.
  • Generate regular and ad-hoc reports on metrics such as headcount, turnover, benefits utilization, and compensation analytics.
  • Train employees and managers on self-service HRIS features and troubleshoot system-related issues.
  • Manage and audit employee files.


Compliance 

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, including ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, and COBRA.
  • Prepare and submit ACA reporting, benefits audits, and other required filings.


Requirements

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll processing, benefits administration, and HRIS management. Consumer goods or CPG Manufacturing experience is required.   
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) highly preferred.  Qualified candidates that are bilingual will be considered first. 
  • Experience managing leave programs, including FMLA and ADA accommodations.
  • Familiarity with compliance requirements such as ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, and COBRA.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and benefits compliance.
  • Proficiency with Payroll platforms (Paylocity preferred)
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
  • A customer-service mindset, focusing on employee experience and satisfaction.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be able to prioritize workload in a multitasking environment, short-term tactical along with longer term strategic activities.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision and have the ability to interact positively and motivate others.
  • Exceptional communication skills; promoting teamwork and a positive work environment. Strong ability to communicate with all levels of the organization from the production floor to the executive office; strong interpersonal, leadership, & organizational skills.
  • Maintain regular, consistent attendance & punctuality. Must have a flexible schedule that may require occasional nights, weekends, and holidays.





Reports to: Director of Payroll & Benefits

Location: On-site – Louisville CO 

Compensation is based on the level of experience, other relevant experience, and requirements of the position. The range provided serves only as a guideline and does not automatically qualify all candidates (internal or external) for the high end of the range.


Compensation Range: $75,000 to $90,000
