Job Purpose or Objective(s): Develops and implements planning and actions to reclaim natural resources within the Choctaw Nation Reservation. Including, but not limited to, legal entitlements, regulatory authority, and/or cooperative management of land and natural resources. You will report to the Senior Director of Environmental Protection Services.
Primary Tasks:
- You will develop and execute a plan for reclaiming and/or recognizing rights to land, air, water, and wildlife jurisdictional authority for tribal management.
- Direct activities to manage inventory and prioritize strategic opportunities for reclaiming land and natural resources managed by the state or federal government within the Reservation.
- Liaise with state and federal agency leadership to protect and promote the Choctaw Nation's sovereignty.
- Facilitate partnerships with external third‑party or private entities to evaluate projects and support long‑term sustainability of tribal resources
- You will develops long-term strategic planning initiatives, actions, and implementation practices; manage the direction of consulting experts' products by providing direction and collaborative engagement to guide their efforts.
- Evaluate process and costs for operation, management, and benefit of potential projects.
- You will identify areas Choctaw Nation has jurisdictional rights. Including strengthening current rights and areas where rights could be asserted or exercised.
- Partner with all other Tribal departments as necessary to execute the reclamation plan.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Environmental/Natural Resource Professional Certification(s).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff, stakeholders, subject matter experts, and the public.
- Experience with data recruitment/ analysis and technical report development.
- Five (5) years' experience with Oklahoma and federal water law, policies, regulations, public speaking, and presenting.
- Five (5) years with Army Corps, USFS, FWS, BLM, or private firms with federal agency experience.
