We are currently seeking a temporary Civil Intern to join us this summer. In this role, you will learn essential, career-developing skills from an established team of engineers. You will gain exposure to various project types and work with clients in both the private and public sectors. As an aspiring engineer, you will see many aspects of Civil Engineering and build upon your technical ability.
In this role you can expect to perform the following tasks. This is not an exhaustive list:
- Analyze and interpret survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.
- Plan and design transportation or hydraulic systems and structures, following construction and government standards using design software.
- Analyze and produce designs for stormwater, sewer, pipeline, parking, sidewalks, roadway, etc. using design software.
- Prepare site grading and utility plans, hydraulic calculations, and prepare construction documents for permitting.
- Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, or material stress factors to determine design specifications.
- Prepare reports and document project activities and data.
- Communicate project status with the Project Manager, client, and any other relevant parties.
- Accompany engineers on site visits to view ongoing company projects.
- Attend client meetings and represent the civil interests of the firm.
We require:
- Enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills. Connections are a critical part of how we work.
- 12-18 hours of Civil engineering courses
- Exposure to AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office. Other relevant programs could include HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, ArcGIS, or Bluebeam.
Physical Demands
This position is primarily sedentary with long periods of sitting, but occasional walking and lifting up to 25lbs may occur. Occasionally bending, squatting, and reaching overhead may also occur. Additionally, extensive computer usage is required daily.
