About the Department
Under supervision, performs a variety of routine and technical functions to support and maintain City citrus groves. Exercises no supervision.
Position Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Performs a variety of grove maintenance functions, including weeding, pruning, feeding, fertilizing, and irrigating trees;
- Assists in the preparation and application of fertilizers, insecticides, and herbicides;
- Performs repairs to irrigation system and components, monitors proper schedules of irrigation systems, if applicable, adjusts clocks as necessary;
- Operates a variety of equipment for crop maintenance including motorized sprayers, weed whackers, pruning shears, brush chippers and other large vehicles and equipment;
- Performs general cleanup and removal of trash and debris;
- Maintains and performs minor repairs on equipment;
- May assist with other grounds maintenance and tree trimming duties within the City; and
- Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Three years of grounds and tree maintenance experience.
- Experience maintaining groves or working with citrus crops is desirable.
- Equivalent to a high school diploma.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license at the time of appointment.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, climb, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear and lift up to 60 pounds;
- Regularly exposed to outdoors, heat, noise, vibration, chemicals, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards;
- Regularly travel to different sites and locations; and
- Must be able to communicate with others and to exchange information accurately.
