Children’s Cardiology, a subsidiary of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, is comprised of more than 60 pediatric cardiologists providing comprehensive services for patients from before birth to age 21 who have acquired or congenital heart disease. The Triage Nurse provides telephone triage services to our patients, caregivers and other medical professionals to ensure delivery of effective patient care and efficient operational management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a state accredited program preferred, or Associates Degree in Nursing from a state accredited program. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a clinical setting or equivalent education, training, and experience in pediatrics.
  • Current Georgia Registered Nurse license required; multistate licensure must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Experience in pediatric cardiology preferred.  
  • Must possess general nursing knowledge as well as critical thinking, judgment and assessment skills. 
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills, good judgement and problem-solving ability. 
  • Proven strong oral and written communication skills required. 
  • Must have general proficiency in computer skills.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Triage calls from patients and caregivers:
  • Obtain and clarify patient information.  
  • Assess and communicate accurate information to health care providers to ensure effective and appropriate care. 
  • Communicate accurate health information and advice to patients and caregivers.
  • Provide education to patients and caregivers as needed.
  • Complete triage calls with appropriate documentation in EMR.
  • Prioritize calls from patients, caregivers, guardians, physicians, and other medical professionals to determine urgency.
  • Position requires ability to identify the nature and urgency of client health care needs and determine appropriate disposition via telephone.
  • Review patient information to identify and report unusual or problematic circumstances. 
  • Communicate with CHOA staff as needed to ensure appropriate patient care.
  • Monitor patient’s PT/INR results, other laboratory results and tests as ordered; notify physician, follow up with patient/family as needed.
  • Collaborate with other staff including triage staff, giving direction as needed, to ensure appropriate care is efficiently delivered. 
  • Appropriately document all calls, actions and interventions per policy.
  • May act as Clinical RN and travel to clinics as operationally necessary. 
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
