About the Department
Under general supervision, is responsible for providing program support related to urban agriculture.
Position Duties
- Identifies, recruits, schedules, and educates youth and adults about urban agriculture and food and fiber systems
- Uses approved curricula and identifies teaching strategies that promote urban agriculture and innovative food and fiber production awareness among program participants
- Facilitates and collects pre- and post- program surveys to evaluate and interpret program efficacy
- Organizes community events that promote urban agriculture
- Recruits and engages volunteers to strengthen programming efforts
- Coordinates with local youth agencies/organizations and local schools to coordinate services to enhance program delivery
- Coordinates programming with County Extension Agents to develop a comprehensive approach to urban agriculture education
- Follows detailed, annual program plans
- Completes required weekly, monthly, and annual program reports
- Participates in professional development training activities
- Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from High School or a General Education Development (GED) certificate supplemented by college coursework in Agricultural or Food Science/Production or related concentration and two (2) years working with youth/adult-related programs; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of basic agricultural, food and fiber production, and youth development principles
- Strong skill in communicating effectively with all audiences in assigned county, regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex religion, disability, or national origin; skill in organizing, compiling and recording information accurately; skill in utilizing computers/internet based programs
- Ability to teach youth and adults, and manage volunteers; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other County employees, and outside agencies/organizations
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation
- Must secure and maintain a pre-employment physical and drug screen
- Must have a valid driver's license and motor vehicle liability insurance; personal injury protection insurance and a personal vehicle
- Frequently working in indoor conditions; classroom environment
- Work environment involves exposure to outdoor activities
- Occasionally moves items 20-30 pounds
- Occasionally moves about the classroom/office
- Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
- Positions self to perform essential functions
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position
