Role Description:
The Mechanical Commissioning Engineer oversees the commissioning of HVAC and other mechanical systems, ensuring they are installed, tested, and operating in accordance with design intent and project specifications. This role manages startup, functional testing, and performance verification of critical mechanical systems while driving resolution of issues and coordinating with cross-disciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
- Deliver commissioning services for mission-critical and high-tech facilities, with a focus on mechanical systems and standalone commissioning activities.
- Manage and execute commissioning projects in alignment with client agreements, project schedules, and performance requirements.
- Conduct site audits, quality reviews, and commissioning inspections to verify that installation and system operation meet design intent and project standards.
- Lead commissioning of mechanical systems including HVAC, CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, pumps, piping, and associated equipment.
- Develop and implement commissioning plans, perform functional and performance testing, and confirm that control systems and sequences are operating as designed.
- Identify, track, and resolve deficiencies or deviations, ensuring systems meet the highest quality, safety, and compliance standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, local codes).
- Prepare and maintain detailed commissioning documentation, including test results, deficiency logs, reports, and turnover packages for client and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering teams, contractors, vendors, and cross-disciplinary Cx teams to coordinate commissioning activities and resolve issues.
- Troubleshoot mechanical system problems, implement corrective actions, and optimize system performance for long-term reliability.
- Provide training and operational support to client staff on the proper use, maintenance, and preventive care of commissioned systems.
- Support the development of preventive maintenance programs to maximize system uptime and efficiency.
- Perform work onsite at active construction sites; travel is required depending on project location.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or previous field experience is required
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in mission critical commissioning experience required
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, CRAC units, CRAC units, chillers, pumps, VRF systems, fan coils, BAS/BMS systems and associated components
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, such as ASHRAE, NFPA, and local building codes
- Able to read and interpret construction drawings and one-line drawings
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite software, including Teams, is required
- Familiar with Bluebeam Studio/Revu
