Reporting to the Director of School Based Health Services (SBHC) or designee, the School Based Health Center Coordinator (SBHC Coordinator) acts as an advocate for patients seeking and receiving care in the school based health center and coordinates several duties simultaneously. The SBHC Coordinator will greet patients, schedule/check-in patients, answer telephone calls, and identify, register and maintain records of Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center patients. He/she is responsible for the input and maintenance of patient computer data to ensure compliance to registry operational standards and requirements of the board of education. The SBHC Coordinator will directly assist the clinical provider during clinical sessions and prepare patients for exams according to specific guidelines. The SBHC Coordinator will ensure the SBHC is stocked with all supplies needed for operations. The SBHC Coordinator will float to other departments or sites as required when school is not in session. 


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Greets patients and updates demographic information into the computer system. Ensures to treat patients and staff respectfully, courteously and appropriately
  • Schedules patients into available Provider/Clinician appointment openings. Ensures to schedule appointments according to established procedures and guidelines of the department
  • Verifies various types of insurance coverage as indicated by CS-HHC billing procedure
  • Responsible for receiving telephone calls from patients and correctly and accurately record messages for Providers
  • Manages patient records using Epic, Centricity and HealthX
  • Responsible for preparing patients and rooms for an exam according to specific procedures
  • Accurately and legibly documents vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperatures, O2, saturations and finger sticks
  • Performs EKG’s, hearing and vision tests, Urine Dipsticks, Urine Pregnancy Tests and other CLIA waived tests when necessary
  • Responsible for drawing blood and maintaining current phlebotomy certification
  • Attends school functions and serves on school committees as needed 
  • Performs all other duties as required

Requirements: 

  • High School Diploma/GED required.

  • Must have certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants and/or American Registry of Medical Assistants.

  • Phlebotomy Certification from National Phlebotomy Association or National Healthcare Association preferred and current CPR certification from the American Heart Association required.

  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.

  • One (1) year experience as a Medical Assistant required.

  • Previous medical office experience as a medical assistant is preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and written and verbal communications skills are essential.

  • Computer skills and data entry skills are required. Familiarity with Microsoft, Internet and E-mail is necessary. Computer skills are required with the ability to learn Epic, Centricity, EMR and Outlook.

  • Ability to float to other departments or sites and perform all aspects of patient care.

  • Ability to prepare patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight and temperature; verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit.
