HDR is seeking an Intern to join our Water Business Group Construction Administration Services team in Charlotte, NC or Raleigh, NC.  Ideal candidates will have a technical interest in the construction of water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure. The Intern will be responsible for assisting with construction project management tasks such as:

  • Onsite construction inspection for contract compliance
  • Construction materials testing coordination and oversight
  • Construction progress documentation
  • Shop drawing review
  • Coordination of Job Site Hazard Analysis
  • Preparation and coordination of Owner’s facility documentation

The Intern will support and advise construction administration project managers and resident project representatives on multiple construction sites across North Carolina. Daily work activities may take place in the field, or in an HDR office as needed.  Tasks may include photographic documentation, written reports, as well as oral communication with many different stakeholders (contractors, engineers, owners, private citizens). This position may have extensive requirements to work outdoors, as well as reliable transportation to rural jobsites.

This position is subject to a preemployment drug test.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a BS or MS in Construction Management, or other related Engineering program required.  
  • Excellent communication skills and thrive working in a team environment.
  • Interest and experience in the construction industry preferred.
  • Coursework in construction management or construction engineering preferred. 
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Procore (or similar) preferred.
  • Preference will be given to local candidates.

Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Attention to detail
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
