Job Summary
This position is responsible for supporting International Logistics operations and the importing of product throughout the worldwide Dorman Products network. The candidate will be business savvy, with the ability to self-educate to keep current in the evolving International Logistics arena. This person will be comfortable conversing with every level of the organization, building organizational relationships with internal customers while working collaboratively to reach resolution. The ability to understand the trade-offs associated with Supply Chain decisions and understand the complexities of performing business internationally will be critical.
This is a hybrid role with the expectation to be onsite at least 1 to 3 days per week, and additional days as needed.
Primary Duties
- Manage portions of the day-to-day international operations and Trade Partners associated with flowing product from Dorman’s supplier base (approx. active 350 suppliers across 20 countries) to our North American Distribution centers. Focus will be on managing the spend and operations associated with origin management and ocean freight carriers, for both import and export shipments.
- Own the relationships with external trade partners, negotiating rates and contracts, leading regular RFP and business review efforts, for approximately 20K TEUs across all Dorman Products enterprise (Light Duty, Heavy Duty and Specialty business units)
- Understand and manage the trade-offs between costs, service and inventory associated with various flow paths (transload, CFS, North American ports of entry, port to port/port to door etc). Assist in creating the strategy for importing product throughout the Dorman supply chain network, taking into account service requirements, incoterms, cost models, flow path optimization tools, domestic movements, customs compliance, and replenishment needs.
- Work with Trade Partners in pursuit of continuous process improvement, enhancing reporting, visibility, data integrity, standard operating procedures etc. Create / maintain policies or procedures for logistics activities as needed or required
- Communicate with foreign based Dorman offices in India and China, as well as suppliers and forwarders for timely booking and shipment communications
- Stay abreast of market conditions (ocean freight, domestic drayage/trucking, international airfreight) and best practices to develop and execute strategies to flow product in the most economical manner
- Be accountable for KPIs associated with International Logistics, including cost as a percentage of purchases, on time performance, demurrage, utilization and volume
- Work effectively with cross functional partners (e.g. procurement, suppliers and supply chain) to develop and execute end-to-end product flow strategies and manage the day to day
Qualifications
- Experience working with NVOs, ocean carriers, origin management companies, drayage companies, freight forwarders and customs house brokerage firms.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite - Advanced Excel Skills preferred.
- Proficiency within ERP and data visualization software. SAP ECC and Qlik/Tableau a plus.
- Knowledge of import trade compliance a plus
- Must be detail oriented, highly organized, resourceful, and work well within a team environment.
- Must be a data driven decision maker.
Education / Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 8-10 years of supply chain experience with a medium size ($500K to $2B dollar company)
- 6+ years of international logistics and distribution experience
