STUDENT ASSISTANT EMPLOYEE JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Wellness Center Manager, the Student Wellness Center Building Manager is responsible for supporting and ensuring the wide variety of activities and events occurring at the Wellness Center.
JOB DUTIES:
· Opens and/or closes the Wellness Center and provides general facility security
· Supports and ensures daily activities and events occurring in the Wellness Center
· Interprets and enforces USU and Wellness Center policies and procedures
· Serves as a resource to Wellness Center guests, as well as employees
· Responds appropriately to a variety of emergency situations including but not limited to medical emergencies, fire, civil disturbances and acts of nature, and coordinates and/or executes emergency procedures as needed
· Inspects and maintains furniture, therapeutic equipment and audio visual equipment and assists in maintaining inventory of same
· Generates written and detailed reports of all activities occurring during work shift, including accidents, incidents, and unusual situations and circumstances
· Executes and ensures proper therapeutic equipment set-up
· Executes and ensures proper audio-visual equipment set-up and breakdown including public address systems (PA), projectors, microphones, portable screens, laptops, etc.
· Operates minor to mid-level audio visual equipment such as:
o Overhead projectors and data projectors, portable screens, etc.
o TV monitors, laptops, iPads, and closed-captioned devices
· Trouble-shoots audio visual equipment and therapeutic equipment
· Provides direction to Wellness Center Assistants regarding preparation and set up of activity rooms
· Assists campus collaborators and event sponsors in their use of the facility and serves as the liaison to collaborators during events
· Monitors and maintains facility and equipment cleanliness including miscellaneous trash pick-up and carpet and furniture spot cleaning
· Monitors building and facility maintenance needs and generates work orders
· Executes a variety of facility-related projects as assigned
· Facilitates the Wellness Center access control and equipment rental via Fusion software
· Maintains confidentiality related to participant information per USU/SRC/Wellness Center policy and HIPAA guidelines
· Must attend required Student Recreation Center, Wellness Center and USU employee orientation and trainings as well as department specific trainings and meetings
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
· Must be a currently enrolled CSUN student
EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS
· Previous experience and/or specialized education required for employment
· American Red Cross or department approved First Aid, CPR, and AED certification shall be obtained within 30 days. Training is periodically offered free of charge by the USU. Applicants unable to attend USU-sponsored training are required to obtain certification at their own expense
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
· The person holding this position is considered a “mandated reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Proven leadership and organizational skills.
· Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
· Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
· Must be detailed oriented, self-motivated, and possess strong initiative
· Extensive experience with Macintosh and PC word processing, spread-sheets, database, desk-top publishing and graphic software programs.
· Ability to perform a wide variety of moderately-complex to complex tasks requiring judgment, analysis and decision-making
· Ability to develop and implement policy and procedure
· Ability to provide and model exceptional customer service skills
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills including knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation as well as the ability to both give and follow oral and written instructions
· Ability to objectively evaluate own performance and make appropriate changes as required
· Ability to maintain and model a neat appearance and courteous disposition
· Ability to effectively coordinate multiple tasks and adhere to deadlines
· Ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously
· Ability to make public presentations and generate written reports
· Must be able to remain calm under pressure, think quickly and respond effectively to emergency situations
· Ability to identify problems and/or concerns relative to position of employment, and recommend viable solutions
· Ability to respond to major and minor emergencies such as earthquakes, civil disturbances, hazardous materials, etc.
· Must possess an ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings, holidays, finals weeks, and during academic interim and break periods as needed
· Ability to work in a culturally diverse, ethnically pluralistic environment
· Must be able to move and/or lift tables, chairs, and pop-up tents without assistance, as well as lighter-weight audio visual equipment, including microphones, speakers, and television monitors. Must be able to assist in moving and/or lifting heavier furniture, including stage and audio visual equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. (if applicable)

SUPERVISION
Supervision is provided by the Wellness Center Manager
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is typically performed both in both indoor and outdoor environments in possible inclement weather conditions. Ability to arrive at work on time for all scheduled work shifts except in the event of emergency required. Daily contact with members of the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, administrators and guests, is required. In addition to regularly assigned work schedule must possess an ability and willingness to work weekends, academic interim, and break periods. Must be flexible, adaptable, and readily able to adjust to changes in work environment.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of Student Wellness Center Building Manager.
