Preschool Instructional Specialist

Salary Range: $57,000 - $70,000

Reports to: Quality Assurance Director

Position Type: Exempt

Definition

The Preschool Instructional Specialist is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of programs and services that support the growth and development of FSA enrolled preschool children. This role involves collaborating with families, educators, community partners and the Child Development Leadership team to ensure high-quality, developmentally appropriate practices that promote the well-being of young children.

Essential functions

1. Program Development and Implementation

   - Design developmentally appropriate programs and activities for preschool children.

   - Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and make necessary adjustments.

   - Support NAEYC processes and activities, environmental rating scales (ERS), CLASS,   

     DRDP and Learning Genie.

2. Collaboration:

   - Work closely with early childhood educators, CDC Leadership, and community  

      organizations to create a network of instructional / educational support.

3. Assessment and Planning:

   - Provide resources and support for individualized curriculum planning.

   - Provide support to Educators with developmental screenings and assessments to identify  

     needs of enrolled preschool children.

   - Provide support to Educators with individualized plans for children with identified needs,  

      in collaboration with families and other professionals.

4. Training and Support:

   - Provide training and ongoing support to directors and educators on current best practices  

      in preschool development and programming.

   - When needed, develop and implement feedback plans with educators to support their

      professional development.

5. Policy and Compliance:

   - Ensure programs comply with local, state, and agency regulations regarding early  

     childhood education and care.

   - Maintain accurate records and documentation related to program activities and  

      outcomes.

  • Participate in Policy Development.

Core Competencies

  - Strong knowledge of early childhood development principles and best practices.

  - Stay updated on current research and trends in early childhood education including  

    NAEYC, CLASS, ECERS, Licensing, and CDE.

 - Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with  

    educators, families and community partners.

-  Ability to communicate and coach educators with improving their skills and performance. 

-  Excellent organizational and time management skills.

-  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant software for documentation and  

    reporting.

-  Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing situations.

 -  Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

 - Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field  

   (Master’s preferred).

 - Minimum 5 years of experience working with preschool children in an educational or – 

   developmental setting. A minimum of 2 years in a state-funded program.

licenses and certifications

  • Minimum of a Site Supervisor Permit.
  • Current CLASS certification with Preschool.
  • DRDP Rater Certification preferred. 

other requirements

- Ability to travel to and work at all FSA Child Development Centers.

- Capability to engage in activities that require physical mobility (e.g., bending, kneeling,  

   sitting on the floor).

  • Ability to participate and engage in regular classroom activities and routines. 

All other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and/ or Program Administrator and Chief Operating Officer.
