Environmental Planner – Toronto, Markham
Are you a recent graduate looking for a career as an Environmental Planner working on environmental assessments in Ontario? Do you want to get involved in delivering environmental components of multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects under various Environmental Assessment processes? If so, we are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic candidates for the position of Associate Environmental Planner to support Parsons Infrastructure business
The Associate Environmental Planner’s key responsibilities include:
- Work with and support intermediate and senior Environmental Planners on Environmental Assessment (EA) projects (MTO, Municipal and Transit projects)
- Be involved in a range of infrastructure projects including research, report writing, and development of project consultation programs
- Assist with preparing proposals for MTO and municipal pursuits
- Work with staff at other Parsons offices and with project sub-consultants
- Coordinate with internal and external technical service areas, discipline leads and technical staff, on technical studies and preparation of environmental assessment documentation
- Coordinate and participate in public consultation and stakeholder engagement, including consultation with Indigenous Communities
- Assist environmental field staff in completing environmental inventories, as required
Skills & Qualifications:
- Degree in geography, environmental studies, environmental science, planning or related field
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work in as a part of a multidisciplinary project team and independently
- Knowledge of Environmental Assessments including MTO Class EA, Municipal Class EA, Transit Project Assessment Process, Canadian Environmental Assessment Act
- Familiar with environmental permitting and approvals process
- Knowledge of environmental legislation including the Fisheries Act, Navigation Protection Act, Species at Risk Act, Endangered Species Act
- Strong technical, management, writing and presentation skills
- Eligibility for a Registered Professional Planner (RPP), and/or Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP) professional designation preferred
- Knowledge of local, provincial and federal environmental policies, legislation and applicable law
- Valid Canadian Driver’s License
- Thorough knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
