POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Vice President of Human Resources (HR) provides executive-level leadership and guidance to the University’s HR operations. The Associate Vice President is responsible for setting, enforcing, and evaluating legally compliant human resources policies, procedures, and best practices, and identifying and implementing long-range strategic talent management goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Champions the values and vision of the University by leading to ensure a positive work environment to drive the highest levels of employee engagement.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to define the University’s long-term mission and goals; identify ways to support the mission through talent management.
• Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention; work closely with management to identify training needs, workforce planning and succession planning.
• Identify key performance indicators for the University’s human resource and talent management functions; assess the University’s success and market competitiveness based on these metrics.
• Research, develop, and implement competitive compensation, benefits, performance appraisal, and employee incentive programs.
• Coordinate with University leadership to create and maintain job descriptions that include current essential functions and accurate classification.
• Oversee new hire administration, including sourcing, recruiting, onboarding and orientation.
• Provide guidance and leadership to the human resource management team; assist with resolution of human resources, compensation, and benefits questions, concerns, and issues.
• Ensure compliance with employment, benefits, insurance, safety, and other laws, regulations, and requirements.
• Provide effective guidance to University leadership on matters surrounding progressive performance/behavior counseling and interviewing best practices.
• Maintain knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in employment law, human resources, bargaining unit, and talent management.
• Participate in establishing and implementing the University’s staffing budget, and the budget for the human resources department.
• Consult with legal counsel to assist leadership in legal matters and litigation proceedings related to Human Resources.
• Lead process improvement initiatives within the human resources department.
• Participate in professional development and networking conferences and events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
• Recruit, interview, hire and train management-level HR staff.
• Oversee the daily workflow of the human resources department.
• Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
• Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with University policy.
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervise multiple direct report employees. Manage training and work assignments, approve work
schedules and process improvement initiatives and assess performance.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s or law degree highly preferred.
Experience: 10+ years of human resource management experience required, with strategic, talent management and/or business development experience preferred.
Licenses or Certificates: SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
