ModernControls is a leading provider of HVAC and building automation services for commercial facilities across Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C., and New Jersey. We are actively seeking a BAS Technical Sales Engineer to join our growing company. As a BAS Technical Sales Engineer, you will help develop new business opportunities in the Washington D.C./Baltimore markets, maintain existing client relationships and drive sales for Building Automation Projects. This role involves identifying customer needs, proposing solutions, and closing sales to meet company revenue goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of BAS and HVAC systems, and excellent communication skills, and a proven track record in sales.
Requirements
Essential Functions & Responsibilities

- Travel within sales territory to meet new and existing customers in the commercial/industrial facility space.
- Make outbound calls and in-person visits to conduct site surveys to draft BAS proposals.
- Prospect, cold-call, and network to develop leads and sales opportunities.
- Negotiate price and terms of maintenance contracts with decision-makers to close the sale.
- Navigate automation systems to accurately document and build quality scopes.
- Complete take-offs using MEP drawings for scope development.
- Field design scopes based on site information, customer input, and industry knowledge.
- Coordinate project scopes with subcontracts of other trades.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Conduct price estimates and quotations for projects and preventative maintenance contracts (with team support).
- Maintain records of all sales leads and customer accounts in CRM database (BidTracer or comparable).
- Collaborate with other business units for cross-selling opportunities.
- Follow-up on sales leads and lists generated by management and others.
- Participate in training, business development meetings, and networking associations.
- Build technical knowledge of automation system advancements to provide customers with smart systems.
- Achieve sales and gross margin goals while providing customers with superior value and service.
- Conduct product demonstrations for stakeholders to showcase capabilities and address technical inquiries.
- Serve as the primary technical sales resource for customers.
- Assist in preparing proposals and responses to RFPs, providing technical insights during contract negotiations.
- Gather customer feedback and market insights to contribute to product enhancements.
- Conduct training sessions for the sales team to enhance their technical understanding and effectiveness.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education and Experience:
- High School or GED (minimum); Bachelor's Degree or Advanced Technical Certification (preferred)
- 3-5 years experience in Building Automation Systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
- Valid driver’s license in good standing
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and balance multiple projects Thrive in a team environment
- Knowledge of Niagara based solutions (preferred - Johnson Controls, ABB, and/or Distech)
