About the opportunity
The Broken Hill Rural Clinical School (RCS), also known as the Broken Hill University Department of Rural Health (UDRH), is funded under the Commonwealth Department of Health’s Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) Program.
Our focus at the BHUDRH, is to lead the design and delivery of innovative teaching and learning environments for medical, nursing and allied health students undertaking their placement in our region. We also actively work to improve the quality of health care for rural, remote and First Nations Peoples by fostering local and regional collaborations and enhancing national expertise in rural and remote health research and the translation of research into policy and practice.
Our team is distributed across the far west, north and southwestern regions of New South Wales. We are committed to providing the best educational experiences and supporting pertinent research in order to support the growth and development of rural Australia.
We are seeking a Lecturer – First Nations Academic to support teaching and placements for Northwest region students. You will also assist the Senior Lecturer- First Nations Lead and Senior Leadership Team in the BHUDRH region in fostering collaborative cross-sector First Nations community and organisational relationships ensuring that all all interactions and engagements with First Nations communities are conducted with authenticity and sensitivity.
The First Nations Academic forms part of the Broken Hill UDRH First Nations team and is expected to make significant contribution to teaching and learning practice, design and evaluation of the First Nations programs within the BHUDRH, Sydney Nursing School and Faculty of Medicine and Health, The University of Sydney.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
Build and maintain a reputation for academic excellence through independent and innovative contributions to research and education, expanding knowledge and practice in the First Nations ways of knowing, being and doing.
Establish collaborations and partnerships to enhance the profile and reputation of the BHUDRH and university.
Coordinate and engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences which meet the university’s expectations and standards for education, including cultural supervision in the Bourke campus and its region.
Coordinate, develop and continually improve curricula, programs and resources to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
Coordinate local cultural activities, provide training and mentorship to health students and fellow academics.
Provide contributions that have a significant impact on teaching, innovation, curriculum development, research training and supervision within the school or faculty.
Contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled.
Understand and contribute to furthering the university and BHUDRH strategic agenda.
Engage in community and alumni outreach, and play a significant role in scholarly, research, or professional activities relevant to area of expertise.
Establish partnerships, collaborations and engage in impactful outcomes in research, development, commercialisation, and policy improvement.
Undertake other duties and contribute to projects appropriate within the classification level as required.

Education
Doctorate or PhD - In a relevant field OR
Other - An equivalent combination of relevant training and experience
Only one Field of Study needs to apply. The Education requirements should be considered in conjunction with the Work Experience requirements.
