Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED
Organizational Skills:
Maintain a well-organized kitchen environment, including storage areas, refrigerators, and freezers, to ensure proper food safety and sanitation.
Responsible for basic money management, such as taking in money from teachers/staff.
Monitor and maintain kitchen equipment, coordinating repairs or replacements as needed, to ensure a safe and functional working environment.
Learn the industry standards of meal components to ensure students are receiving the required nutrient subgroups.
Technology/Computer Skills:
Utilize computer skills to effectively manage inventory, track orders, and maintain records of food supplies and equipment.
Utilize computer skills to effectively use programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook and/or the Google equivalents.
Learn and adapt to new software programs or systems implemented within the school kitchen, ensuring proficiency in their usage.
Communication:
Attend weekly meetings with the Director and fellow Kitchen Managers to discuss operational updates, menu planning, and any other relevant topics.
Collaborate with the Director and Nutrition Manager to accommodate special dietary needs and allergies of students, ensuring a safe and inclusive dining experience.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school administration regarding menu options, nutrition information, and any relevant updates or changes.
Maintain positive relationships with vendors and suppliers.
Stay up-to-date with industry trends, regulations, and best practices in school nutrition, and incorporate them into the kitchen operations as appropriate.
Leadership:
Lead and supervise a team of kitchen staff, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure smooth operations and efficient workflow.
With the help of the Director: develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to improve efficiency, productivity, and quality in the kitchen.
Enforce food safety protocols, including HACCP guidelines, to ensure compliance with health department regulations.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting teamwork, respect, and open communication among the kitchen staff.
Physical Demands:
The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop, kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and will occasionally climb ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as food storage containers, boxes, equipment, etc. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, scrubbing machines, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
The employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
