Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Automation Project Engineer to design, program, and implement advanced automation and control systems. The role involves working closely with customers and with a multi-disciplinary engineering team to deliver technical solutions that meet technical specifications and timelines. The Automation Project Engineer will support production throughout project lifecycles and will provide hands-on support for commissioning and startup activities, while building strong client relationships.

This position reports to the ISS-VP of Technology.

 Key Responsibilities:

• Evaluate job sites and define project scope to develop comprehensive proposals.
• Specify, program, integrate, and implement automation systems, including DCS, PLC, HMI, and SCADA platforms.
• Lead projects from concept to commissioning and startup, ensuring delivery within scope, budget, and deadlines.
• Oversee a team of engineers and technicians to execute project deliverables.
• Perform site visits to support commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities.
• Create, Read, interpret, and translate P&IDs and electrical drawings into functional control systems.
• Develop and review project documentation, including vendor drawings and compliance with specifications.
• Identify and manage scope changes.
• Maintain effective communication with customers, vendors, and internal teams to ensure alignment throughout project lifecycles.
• Stay current with advancements in automation technologies and platforms to drive continuous improvement.
• Willingness to travel to assist Field Service team when necessary.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (required).
• Certifications:
  • PE or a master’s degree in engineering is a plus.
  • Automation system certifications are advantageous.
• Experience:
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in automation and controls projects, including commissioning and startup.
  • Familiarity with automation systems across industries such as oil and gas, water/wastewater, recycling, and power generation.
• Technical Proficiency:
  • Proficiency in automation platforms including Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Emerson, LS, Modicon, Honeywell, etc.
  • Proficiency in HMI platforms including WinCC, Complicity, Wonderware/Archestra, Ignition, Beijer, FactoryTalk, etc.
  • Proficiency in DCS platforms including CENTUM VP, PCS7, DeltaV, ABB 800, HONEYWELL, PlantPAx.
  • Strong understanding of BPCS and SIS roles, instrumentation, communication protocols, networking, and cybersecurity.
  • Proficiency in Autocad to create electrical drawings when the electrical department is overloaded.
  • Proven field troubleshooting abilities (both electrical and logical).
