The Opportunity:
As a CAD Specialist in the Building Materials Group, you create repair/restoration drawings that address issues in façades, roofs, and structural systems. Your work supports architects, engineers and consultants by translating field assessments into actionable design details that guide contractors during construction process. Accuracy and clarity are key to ensuring repairs are effective, code-compliant, and tailored to each building’s unique conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare complete, concise, and correct construction documents consisting of plans, elevations, sections, details, and notes using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam, and Microsoft office applications.
- Prepare documents using information from existing drawings, data collected from field assessment activities, and rough sketches provided by others.
- Conduct field assessments to assist the team with field sketches, taking dimensions, etc.
- Use project-specific specifications, work plans, and drawings to reference product and assembly information for project drawing requirements.
- Collaborate with the Project team to coordinate design solutions by applying standard design/drafting principles and theories to complete assignments.
- Incorporate client feedback and make revisions.
- Meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality drawings.
- Prepare addenda and bulletins.
- Follow, develop, and maintain group drafting and CAD standards including layer names, drafting symbols line styles, drawing and window names, and file names for sheet layout.
- Provide CAD assistance to other groups when needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, Drafting, or related field.
- A minimum of three-years’ experience with the latest version of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Experience in architectural/structural building components layout and detailing from foundation to roof (preferred).
- Willingness to spend time in the field. Conducting field assessments. Ability to climb ladders and stairs to access roofs and go inside existing or under-construction buildings, recording the necessary field data to produce construction documents for concrete, masonry, steel, wood, and building enclosure elements and materials.
- Ability to learn new concepts and adapt to challenges.
- Ability to work from heights, work in tight spaces, and work in inclement weather.
- Ability to work overtime, including weekends on an as-needed basis.
- Ability to work in an efficient and organized manner independently and with a team, as well as the desire for continuous learning.
