POSITION SUMMARY: The Executive Director of Schools will provide ongoing, individualized support to school leaders to promote site-based leadership development with the goal of providing all students with an academic experience that ensures college and career readiness. The Executive Director will work to support the vision of continuous improvement of teaching and learning set forth in the district strategic plan.
SALARY: $130,089 – $187,722
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months, 260 Days REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Superintendent
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university
Superintendent Certificate preferred
Eight years or more of successful experience in education with at least five years administrative experience at the building level or higher preferred
Valid Pennsylvania Instructional II License, Elementary and or Secondary Certification
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the PA Core State Standards, STEELS and the implication for changing educational practice
Thorough knowledge of effective instruction and knowledge of current theories of curriculum, instruction, and assessment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to make persuasive presentations
Interpersonal skills that ensure effective support of administrators and effective team building
Experience using data at the school and District level to analyze trends in academics, attendance, behavior, graduation rates, and other areas that affect student growth and achievement
Proficiency in the use of technical computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Assist with the recruitment, interview process, and selection of effective administrators based on the critical needs as indicated by data review at each site
Lead/Facilitate professional development sessions to assist principals with recognizing and understanding best instructional practices and designing measures of accountability for implementation of learning
Support administrators in the development of improvement plans designed to increase educator instructional effectiveness in their buildings
Collaborate with Instructional Leadership Teams in each school to maintain comprehensive knowledge of schools’ staff, programs, and activities to better facilitate shared practice among schools and ascertain professional development needs
Evaluate the level of knowledge of the PA Core Standards, and STEELS Standards in each site and assist administrators in building capacity for instructional leadership resulting in improved outcomes
Collaborate with principals to develop action plans outlining the steps necessary to improve academic achievement and an accompanying timeline for implementation
Provide leadership and coordination of the Educator Induction and Mentoring Program to create a high-quality Program District wide
Conduct school visits to observe, coach, develop and support principals to ensure high quality instructional leadership and capacity building
Assist in planning and leading differentiated professional learning opportunities to enhance administrator instructional leadership
Provide principals with local, operational, and practical content and offer support around complex issues
Formally and informally assess each principal, including mid-year and end of year, to verify that each principal has demonstrated progress towards school district and state goals
Coordinate with Principal Coaches to assist with Principal growth and development around focused outcomes
Provide clear evidence-based feedback loops with tracking and monitoring the status of each principal’s continuous improvement
Assist Principal Coaches to identify academic, managerial, and other supports needed for Principals to achieve
Advise Principals, through continuous improvement, on how to coach, develop and support Assistant Principals
Any other duties as assigned.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Demands: Physical requirements are the same as those encountered during a typical professional office environment.
Work Environment: School and office with frequent travel among schools, and various locations within the City of Erie. Occasional travel to relevant professional conferences and meetings outside of the district.
