Position Summary
The Pharmacy Operations Project Manager leads and supports operational projects across pharmacy services, ensuring timely, compliant, and efficient execution of key initiatives. This role partners cross-functionally with operations, quality, IT, finance, supply chain, compliance & regulatory affairs, HR, and leadership to drive projects that strengthen operational performance, regulatory readiness, organizational development, and patient safety.
The ideal candidate brings strong project management expertise, hands-on pharmacy operations experience, and working knowledge of pharmacy compliance standards (USP, FDA, and State Board of Pharmacy). This role focuses on scalable growth, process optimization, workforce planning, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure consistent execution of operational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Lead cross-functional pharmacy operations projects from initiation through completion, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with leadership to plan, implement, and monitor performance improvement projects that drive efficiency, quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
Partner with HR on staffing needs, onboarding plans, training initiatives, organizational development, and change management activities related to operational projects.
Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, risk mitigation, and performance tracking.
Act as a liaison between pharmacy leadership, compounding operations, IT, quality, compliance & regulatory affairs, HR, finance, and vendor partners to ensure smooth project execution.
Track and report project status to stakeholders, proactively identifying risks, delays, and dependencies.
Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of SOPs, work instructions, and training materials related to operational projects.
Assist in audit preparation, regulatory inspections, and accreditation surveys to ensure compliance readiness.
Analyze workflows, identify bottlenecks, and recommend process improvements to enhance operational efficiency, compliance, workforce productivity, and patient safety.
Facilitate project meetings, maintain documentation, and ensure effective communication across cross-functional teams.
Perform data analysis and reporting to assess project outcomes and drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Pharmacy, or related field required; Master’s degree or PMP certification preferred.
3–5 years of project management experience, preferably in pharmacy operations, healthcare, or regulated manufacturing environments.
Strong understanding of pharmacy regulations, including USP standards, FDA guidelines, and state board pharmacy requirements.
Hands-on experience in compounding, sterile operations, specialty pharmacy, or pharmacy fulfillment operations is highly desirable.
Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Smartsheet, Monday.com, Microsoft Project).
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and leadership levels.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing business needs.
Proven experience leading cross-functional teams and driving accountability for deliverables.
Preferred Competencies
Lean Six Sigma (LSS) certification — Green Belt or Black Belt preferred; continuous improvement experience in streamlining processes within a pharmacy or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
Background in regulated pharmaceutical operations or compounding environments strongly preferred.
Experience supporting cleanroom operations, USP <797>/<800>, and FDA cGMP environments.
Familiarity with pharmacy automation, IT system implementations, or software migrations.
