What You’ll Do

  • Build and Lead Your Team: Select, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team to deliver exceptional results.

  • Own the Numbers: Manage the branch’s P&L and budget. Work closely with leadership to achieve financial and operational goals while ensuring long-term profitability.

  • Optimize Operations: Oversee dispatch, sales, purchasing, and warehouse management to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience leading teams and operations in the distribution or PVF industry.
  • Strong knowledge of pipes, valves, and fittings (PVF) and best practices in distribution.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to drive results and build relationships.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with SX Enterprise or similar systems.

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of PVF distribution experience.
  • Prior experience in wholesale distribution and supervisory roles.

Position Summary: The General Manager exercises responsibility for developing and managing the Indianapolis branch location to increase sales, profitability, market share, and customer and team member satisfaction. This position is responsible for achieving the operational performance and financial objectives, ensuring efficiency throughout the facility while supporting our company culture.


Essential Functions:

•Drives the vision and solutions that support the success of our distribution center.

•Mentors and develops distribution center managers to help them reach their highest potential while ensuring efficient operation and utilization of the facility.

•Oversees dispatch, inside and counter sales, purchasing, and warehouse management.

•Allocates task responsibility in appropriate areas to appropriate individuals, considering the enhancement of the individual’s knowledge/skills.

•Evaluates all company and distribution reporting and metrics and applies that knowledge to drive efficiencies throughout the operation.

•Monitors all sales and holds regular meetings with the inside sales team. Meets with customers to help drive sales.

•Direct responsibility for P&L and budget for the distribution center. Meets with the CFO on a monthly or quarterly basis.

•Stays up to date with local market best practices.

•Meets and visits with customers when appropriate.

•Leads, coaches, trains, and manages the values and attitudes of all distribution center employees by managing behavior, actions and performance through proper communication and follow-up.

•Conducts timely and objective bonus and/or performance reviews of direct reports and participates in other staff reviews as appropriate.

•Identifies and takes advantage of available resources (individuals, processes, departments, and tools).

•Keeps team up to date on progress, milestones, assignments, etc.

•Is a steward of company culture, promoting and embracing Porter Pipe’s Core Values, business practices, and philosophies.

•Understands value of relationships and views building relationships as a critical success tool.

•Builds trust by developing and nurturing a team environment; treats people with dignity, respect, and fairness; gives proper credit to others.

•Maintains and promotes a safe work environment for all employees ensuring all safety policies and procedures are adhered to.

•Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

•Requires strong knowledge of pipes, valves, and fittings.

•Requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

•Requires the ability to effectively build rapport with both internal and external customers.

•Requires a positive attitude and ability to function both independently and in a team setting.

•Must possess strong mathematical aptitude.

•Confidence and competence in decision making.

•Must be able to prioritize multiple responsibilities and manage time effectively.

•Must be computer literate in all Microsoft Office products.

•Must be able to communicate in English regarding the essential functions of the position.


Required Experience and Education:

•Bachelor’s degree preferred.

•Three years of PVF distribution experience.

•Previous SX Enterprise or point of sale computer experience.

•Previous wholesale distribution experience.

•Previous supervisory experience.


Physical Demands:

•Must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull 25 lbs.

•Requires visual, hearing, and speech acuity.

•Requires the ability to stand and walk long distances for extended periods of time.

•Exposure to extreme temperatures and elements, noise, and fumes.
