EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school graduate or equivalent. Must have an adequate general knowledge of the city, all light rail transfer points, landmarks, important office buildings, hospitals, and other popular destinations. Must maintain a clean, well-groomed appearance while on duty and possess a pleasant attitude toward the customer, the Authority, and fellow employees. Must be able to speak clearly and distinctly. No more than three (3) moving violations in the past three years.

Internal Candidates will have a record evaluation check to determine if they are eligible to continue in the interview process. Candidates will be automatically disqualified for interview consideration if their record evaluations for the rolling year backward at the time of review consist of:
- Any instances of absence without leave (AWOL)
- Any disciplinary actions
- A combined total of more than three (3) occurrences and/or lose outs (tardies)
- Any valid customer complaints
- Employee has not successfully completed probationary period as a new hire
Notes: Record evaluation will be conducted based on the twelve months preceding the initial date of the posting. Candidates must remain in good standing once selected through the job screening and offer process. Failure to remain in good standing based on the criteria listed above will disqualify any candidate. SUMMARY: Operates light rail cars over routes of the Authority in accordance with MARTA’s rules, regulations, and policies consistent with the safety and welfare of the general public; responsible for the safe operation of equipment, maintaining a reasonable schedule, picking up and discharging passengers. Makes clear and concise public announcements.
Safely operate MARTA passenger light rail to pick up and discharge passengers on routes. Makes clear and concise announcements. Provides courteous and professional customer service.
- Wears uniform and personal protective equipment as supplied and instructed.
- Complies with all standard operating procedures, work rules and general orders directing the operation of MARTA’s light rail.
- Perform pre-pull-out inspection of vehicle and track, according to procedures and instruction, for safety reasons and reports any operational problems.
- Take reasonable precaution, given the circumstances, to ensure the protection of other employees, contractors, volunteers, patrons and members of the public. Identifies and informs personnel of hazards in the workplace.
- Receive and transmit two-way radio messages to report pull-out and track changes and request clearance for movement.
- Refer to route maps, time schedules and instructions.
- Take temporary charge during an emergency situation: report the condition; protect and calm passengers; use emergency equipment as necessary.
- Write reports and complete forms as needed.
- Act as a customer service representative as required.
- Performs light duty cleaning of vehicles both in revenue and nonrevenue service as required.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have a current, valid State of Georgia issued CDL license [Class A or B with a Passenger (“P”) endorsement] or current, valid State of Georgia issued Commercial Driver Learner’s (CDL) Permit (Class A or B with a “P” endorsement). Individuals hired with a valid State of Georgia issued Commercial Driver Learner’s Permit, must a valid State of Georgia issued Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B with a Passenger endorsement within three (3) weeks of the Bus Operator Candidate’s Training Program. Must pass established operator certification program; recertification test annually.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
2. Must be able to enter the train from ground level when reporting to work.
