Position Overview: 

 

The Data Steward is responsible for maintaining integrity, consistency, and accuracy of data within a specific domain. This role requires a strong foundation in business intelligence (BI), data warehousing (DW), and data governance (DG), as well as strong project coordination skills. The ideal candidate will work closely with business stakeholders and external customers to ensure data is accurate, accessible, and aligned with organizational standards.


Essential Functions:

  • Serve as a liaison between business units, external clients, and IT to gather data requirements and ensure data assets meet business needs.
  • Support and execute data governance policies, data quality rules, and metadata documentation processes.
  • Conduct deep-level data analysis and profiling to ensure consistency, accuracy, and integrity across systems.
  • Participate in or lead small projects, including scoping, scheduling, and coordination with cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain and enhance metadata and data dictionaries to better support data transparency and literacy.
  • Assist in resolving data quality issues, collaborating with data owners, analysts, and technical teams.
  • Contribute to the implementation of BI and DW initiatives by ensuring proper data alignment and stewardship.
  • Document data definitions, lineage, and standards in coordination with data governance team members.
  • Translate complex data findings into understandable insights and documentation for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

 

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, or related field; Master’s degree preferred; Equivalent combination of education and experience might be considered.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in data related role (BA/DA, BI Analyst, data governance, data stewardship, data management or similar)
  • Working knowledge of:
  • Business Intelligence (BI) tools and concepts (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
  • Data Warehousing (DW) and relational databases (e.g., Snowflake, SQL Server, Postgres).
  • Data Governance (DG) principles including data quality, metadata, and stewardship.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform in-depth data analysis and profiling.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with business and technical stakeholders, including external partners or clients.
  • Experience with documentation and requirement gathering (BRDs, data dictionaries, lineage diagrams).
  • Basic project management skills, including task tracking, stakeholder coordination, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with data cataloging tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation, OpenMetadata).
