Senior Analyst, Manager Oversight and Governance
Intro
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Analyst (Manager Oversight and Governance) to join the Investment Risk Valuation and Performance team on a permanent basis, based in our London office (hybrid working).
Who we are
Railpen is responsible for the safekeeping and investment of around £34 billion in assets and the administration of several pension schemes, including the Railways Pension Scheme, one of the UK's largest and longest established pension funds.
Our heritage of looking after the pension needs of the rail industry and its employees gives us our name and our unique outlook on how we serve our members. Railpen takes a holistic view, focusing on how we serve members today and how we can positively impact the communities and the world they will retire into.

The role
This role will be key in the independent oversight of internal and external investment managers. It will support the development of an Independent Manager Oversight Framework which enables Railpen committees to maintain a view on the ongoing suitability of Railpen’s investment managers, whilst ensuring reliable data on investment managers are gathered, analysed, and communicated in an efficient manner.
As a Senior Analyst (Manager Oversight and Governance), you will support the maintenance and development of Trustee-Railpen investment governance framework, making sure the client-to-portfolio investment machine works well for clients. This includes working with other teams to evolve and champion the governance framework when required, providing ad-hoc support as needed to ensure the framework is well understood and embedded at client and Railpen levels.
This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK.
The person
We are looking for someone with extensive experience in investment manager research ideally covering a fixed income as well as other asset classes, such as equities, real assets and private markets. We are looking for someone who will look to develop a deep expertise of Railpen’s investment portfolios, build and maintain high standards for the Governance & Oversight function and work in collaboration with the senior manager for oversight and other functions within IROSO and beyond.
We seek someone with a positive and proactive mindset, a passion for establishing best practice and who will actively look to create a great culture centred on Railpen’s values. You will be professional, articulate and diplomatic at all times to allow you to develop and maintain excellent, trust-based relationships with other members of the Investment Risk Management Team, and senior decision-makers across Railpen. Proactive collaboration is fundamental to this role; you must be able to respectfully negotiate and influence to achieve necessary outcomes. You will be detail orientated, analytical and able to produce and analyse clear and concise reports and documentation.
Our values of integrity, community and alignment are the guiding principles that influence our behaviour. They help us make decisions and shape our relationships with others. They’re what we stand for. You will actively demonstrate our values, helping to create a safe environment, to place the needs of the community above oneself and, through a culture of ‘fair challenge’, align to the best interests of our members.
