­Project Description:

Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support our Regulatory Administration team in Denver, CO. This paid internship provides an opportunity to showcase your abilities in one of our regulatory groups that supports various business units throughout the company. The program provides practical work experience to develop your existing skillset, present to senior leadership, and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders. Each intern will be relied upon to play a role in achieving department objectives and goals. The program will allow you to apply what you’ve learned in school, further enhance your knowledge through hands on training, and provide opportunities to network and learn with other interns across the organization. Through this experience, a successful candidate will learn how to project manage and/or support a project(s) that will allow the Company to meet its cost recovery and policy objectives.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Work with the Regulatory Administration team on various policies, cost recovery, and rulemaking proceedings before the Colorado Public Utilities Commission to ensure approval and positive outcomes for the Company and its customers. This may include applications, testimonies, discovery, official communications, settlements, and decisions and the filing of these materials.
  • Create and assemble hearing preparation materials and assist in hearing operations.
  • Complete multiple regularly required monthly, quarterly, and yearly compliance reports.
  • Facilitate regular departmental administrative duties, including task tracking and completion, meeting notes, and reminders.
  • Conduct research on relevant policies, proceedings, decisions, and process improvement mechanisms.

This position is for June 2026. These positions may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current student, Junior status or above (as of May 2026).
  • Enrolled in programs such as supply chain, advertising, marketing, safety and health, management, human resources, training, labor relations, public relations, government relations, business administration, legal and regulatory compliance and similar.
  • Able to commute to the corporate office in Denver, CO.
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the fall (up to 20 hours a week).
  • Microsoft applications - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint- and Adobe Acrobat
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Analytical and research skills, project management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • English, Economics, Pre-Law/Law, Public Policy, or Business preferred

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $17.80 to $23.90 per hour

This position is eligible for the following benefits: Pension, 401(k) plan, Paid time off (PTO), Holidays
