We are looking for a Manager, Senior Energy Engineer, to join our Operations Team. The primary responsibility of a Manager, Senior Energy Engineer has a dual role of (1) identifying and quantifying demand management opportunities utilizing building, process, or generator load for a variety of customers across all industry verticals and (2) leading a team of technical engineers and analysts to support corporate and division goals. This responsibility also includes supporting Sales to acquire and retain new customers and increase or maintain load at existing customers, while supporting downstream delivery operations. A Manager, Senior Energy Engineer is expected to work independently with minimal supervision and be able to provide consistent feedback on progress and issues. In addition, this individual will be expected to serve as team lead for specialized Project Efforts, taking them from concept through completion.
This is a remote position with a preference for candidates who are within the Baltimore, MD area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform related duties as assigned by VP of Engineering.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Lead and guide a team of technical specialists – engineers, analysts, and administrative staff.
- Lead, develop and define process and procedures to drive corporate initiatives.
- Oversee and administer corporate efforts to oversee expense reporting, PTO, invoicing and support training initiatives and compliance initiatives.
- Lead and develop proposed engineering recommendations.
- Lead specialized task efforts as required, i.e., Generation, Metering, ADR, etc.
- Train and mentor staff on energy management practices and technologies.
- Oversee and direct the daily activities of energy engineers, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and develop performance improvement plans as needed.
- Identify training needs and opportunities for team members. Provide guidance and support for professional development, including certifications and advanced training.
- Address and resolve any conflicts within the team promptly and professionally, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Set clear objectives and performance goals for the team, aligned with company-wide targets and strategies.
- Monitor and evaluate project progress, ensuring that deadlines, budgets, and quality standards are met. Provide support and direction as needed.
- Responsible for approving and tracking PTO and expenses for direct reports.
- Conduct preliminary discussions with customers and if required complete field audits of customer facilities.
- Gather, document, and communicate all pertinent field information.
- Complete detailed engineering analysis based on preliminary information gathered.
- Knowledge of ISO and Utility Demand Response programs and the ability to implement solutions against the market rules to capture additional revenue.
- Coordinate external estimates from engineering personnel, vendors, and contractors. Provide pricing parameters for proposals and contracts.
- Develop and define Project risk assessment plan.
- Work with Project Management delivery team to develop Project Final Cost estimate, Project deliverables, and Project Schedule and Construction implementation plan.
- Keeps abreast of modern technologies supporting efficient energy utilization through reading, meeting with suppliers and attending seminars.
- Evaluate the financial viability of any planned projects including federal and state incentives.
- Manage projects to ensure they meet specifications and customer satisfaction.
- Provide reports to VP of Engineering.
- Mentoring a group of Engineers and Project Managers, the position ensures that customer technical solutions are developed and built to allow customers to participate in the ISO and Utility based markets and are satisfied with the services that CPower provides.
- Utilize strong analytical and problem-solving skills and can communicate complex technical energy-use concepts to non-technical and non-financial people.
- Engage shared technical team installing meters, infrastructure, and support systems.
- Access and communicate additional opportunities to increase revenues.
Requirements
- Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with at least 10 years of relevant Energy experience.
- Relevant Experience with Facility and / or Process Electrical and Mechanical Systems is required.
- Understanding of regulatory environment and processes a plus.
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM), desired, not required.
- Professional Engineer, desired, but not required.
- Member of AEE, ASHRAE and/or ASHE, or other Professional Engineering Organization desired, not required.
- Understanding and knowledge of ISO and Utility Demand Management programs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook, and internal Systems and Engineering Software).
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
