Ground Penetrating Radar Technician —Tuscaloosa, AL

TTL is seeking a ground penetrating radar technician to assist with construction projects in West Alabama. This role will work closely with other project technicians to provide accurate data and insights to support project success. 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct investigations to locate subsurface utilities, buried objects, and elements embedded in structural members using ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and electromagnetic locators
  • Accurately locate and identify underground utilities (such as water, electric, gas and telecommunication lines), investigate potential geotechnical boring locations to identify subsurface obstructions, and locate embedded elements (such as reinforcing steel, post tensioned tendons, and embedded utilities) within structural members
  • Prepare and interpret field sketches, utility drawings and as-built data
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers and field staff to ensure accurate reporting and safe excavation practices
  • Assist in preparing reports, deliverables and detailed field notes
  • Maintain equipment and vehicles in a clean and functional condition

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, some college or technical training in the construction industry is preferred.
  • 1 year of experience with utility layout, construction or locating, 3+ years preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and especially in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.   

Additional Information:

  • This position requires working outside year-round.
  • Project schedules often dictate working hours. Therefore, the candidate should understand that work schedules will vary (early mornings, late evenings) and will be hectic at times.  Some weekend work may be required. 
  • Roundtrip travel to jobsites will be required (typically less than 100 miles); however, opportunities for out-of-town work (regional) may be necessary to support other TTL offices.
