At Whitsons Culinary Group, we’re seeking a detail-driven Assistant Payroll Manager to help lead payroll operations for a growing, multi-state organization. This role is essential in ensuring that over 6,000 team members across 18 states are paid correctly and on time—because when payroll runs right, everything else falls into place.

What You’ll Do
As the Assistant Payroll Manager, you’ll partner with the Payroll Manager to deliver seamless payroll operations, maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, and support business expansion through new markets and acquisitions.
- Oversee and process weekly payroll for 6,000+ employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
- Perform daily payroll system tasks, monitor data integrity, and troubleshoot discrepancies proactively.
- Manage garnishments through ADP Full Service and respond to garnishment or subpoena requests.
- Audit and compliance oversight: Run audit reports, monitor payroll accuracy, and ensure adherence to state and federal laws.
- Reporting: Prepare detailed payroll reports for leadership, finance, and HR teams.
- Employee and manager support: Provide responsive assistance and system troubleshooting for payroll inquiries.
- Financial tasks: Perform payroll-related accounting in Great Plains, including journal entries, cash flow updates, and payroll adjustments.
- Project work: Support acquisitions and special payroll projects to improve processes and system efficiency.
- Stay informed on industry trends and regulatory changes to recommend best practices.
What You Bring
We’re looking for a proactive, detail-oriented professional who balances accuracy with efficiency.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
- Experience:
- 3+ years of progressive payroll experience, including multi-state payroll (5,000+ employees preferred).
- Hands-on experience with ADP, Etime, and Great Plains (or similar systems).
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience with garnishment administration and tax jurisdiction setup.
- Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with impeccable attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of discretion and confidentiality.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
