The Norwich Free Academy (NFA) is seeking an Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Slater Memorial Museum. This position is to plan, implement, and evaluate educational and outreach programming that connects the Museum’s mission with diverse audiences and supports Norwich Free Academy and its community. This is a full-time, 12-month position, 37.5-hour work week (Tuesday–Saturday core schedule). Includes full benefits. Flexibility required for occasional evenings or weekend events.
Performance Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for students and adults aligned with museum best practices and CT Learning Standards
Conduct tours, classes, and programs; oversee docents and volunteers.
Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers, docents, and interns.
Establish long-range goals and benchmarks for outreach services.
Ensure programs are accessible, relevant, and financially responsible.
Support exhibition-related programming and artifact use for education.
Collaborate with NFA departments, schools, and community partners.
Contribute educational content for the museum website and social media.
Supervise part-time staff and volunteers during Saturday hours.
Represent the Museum at community and public events; assist with special events.
Maintain knowledge of the Museum’s collections and exhibitions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Art, Art History, Museum Studies, or related field (or Bachelor’s degree with additional experience).
At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
Strong interpersonal, leadership, and management skills.
Experience designing and delivering educational programming for diverse audiences.
Proven ability to recruit, train, and supervise staff, volunteers, and docents.
Competence in budget and program management.
Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with web-based applications and social media.
Basic knowledge of studio art styles and techniques.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and assist with events outside the regular work week.
