The Sports Tourism Coordinator is an essential position within the Baytown Parks and Recreation team in the Tourism Division, responsible for the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the tourism efforts of sports tourism.

This role focuses on elevating the city's tourism profile, strengthening community partnerships, supporting hospitality operations, managing tourism outreach and marketing efforts, and enhancing the visitor experience. The Sports Tourism Coordinator plays a key role in advancing Baytown as a leading destination for sport travelers through collaboration with local businesses, stakeholders, and tourism partners.

The incumbent in this role must maintain a flexible schedule to attend evening and weekend events as needed and must have reliable transportation for visiting stakeholders and attending offsite meetings.



Position Duties

  • Cultivates and expands Baytown’s sports tourism by building strategic partnerships, offering tailored incentives, and actively promoting the City to event planners through networking, outreach, and support for niche and mainstream sports events.
  • Drives tourism outreach and promotion by managing digital platforms, coordinating event marketing, developing guest experiences, partnering with hotels on incentive packages, and tracking key performance metrics to measure impact.
  • Leads sales and destination development by connecting RFPs to venues, managing sports leads from inquiry to booking, supporting event execution, collaborating on strategic positioning, and advancing professional expertise through certifications and training.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or institution in Sports Marketing or Management, Travel and Tourism, or a related field.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to demonstrate effective writing skills. 
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days).
OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, certification and/or licenses sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred:
  • Experience in the tourism or hospitality industry, sports or sales. 
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).

Other Qualifications

  • Basic Knowledge of various sports such as fishing, cricket, volleyball, soccer, softball, basketball, etc.
  • Understanding of sales strategies to cultivate long-term customer relationships and strategic partnerships.
  • Excellent customer service and customer experience strategy & execution.
  • Strong organizational abilities, with a capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital marketing strategies.
  • Skilled in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other digital tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and external stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail in data entry, communication, and materials preparation.
  • Ability to represent the City of Baytown in a professional and engaging manner.
