Job Summary
Directs & coordinates activities of the facility in processing, packaging & shipping of food grade & evaporated salt by performing tasks, personally or through hourly bargaining unit employees. Supervises & coordinates activities of workers engaged in loading/unloading salt products, package material, ingredients & maintenance equipment from conveyances such as rail cars & over the road trucks. Supervises the moving & storing of salt products from production lines to the warehouse. Oversees the safety, quality and quantity of work performed. Adheres to & reinforces collective bargaining agreement. Assists direct manager & maintenance in planning work & ensures that repairs & corrective actions are completed. Ensures food safety, legality, quality & authenticity of all products produced.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with all HACCP requirements for department. Informs Department Manager and FSQR Manager of any issues.
- Reviews daily or weekly production plan to ensure product delivery to customers.
- Reviews production reports, performs walk-around, observes equipment operation, and confers with operators to improve safety and operational efficiency. Recommends measures to Department Manager to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product; completes implementation of said recommendations.
- Possesses a good working knowledge of material handling and packaging equipment. Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
- Holds subordinates responsible for meeting production goals, adherence collective bargaining agreement, and company/site policies and procedures.Assists in troubleshooting of problem equipment. Directs operators in non-routine tasks. Consults maintenance leadership when unable to solve equipment problems that arise.
- Develops or revises standard operational and working practices, JSA’s and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.
Assigns job tasks to workers according to production schedules. Observes loading of trucks and rail cars to determine conformance to loading patterns and to prevent shifting or damage to palletized salt products during transit. Verifies materials loaded or unloaded against work order or bill of lading. - Directs workers to move materials or products to storage areas or production departments. Verifies correct product and packaging during production runs.
Responds to grievances received and submits to appropriate leadership based on collective bargaining agreement. - Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.
- Performs safety, quality and environmental inspections.
- Accountable to ensuring completion of required HR, safety, and/or quality trainings as assigned by the respective leader.
- Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of operating or production problems and unfavorable costs.
- Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve safety and product quality.
- Consults with Department Manager and engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment in order to improve production and quality of products.
- Requisitions tools, equipment and supplies.
- Ensures compliance with Company and regulatory requirements.
- Suggests, initiates, and implements plans to motivate workers to achieve goals.
- Manages worker overtime per the collective bargaining agreement.
- Coordinates inspection and production records.
- Interprets company policies and regulatory requirements to workers and follows and enforces safety policies, procedures and regulations.
- Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
- Conduct interviews for operations positions as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skilles, and Abilities
• 3-5 Years Supervisory Experience in a manufacturing/warehouse environment preferred
• 5-7 years manufacturing experience
• High school Diploma or Equivalent, required
• AS or BS or BA degree preferred.
• Proficient with: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP preferred
