POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Aquatics Director intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also managing high-quality, member-focused aquatics programs and facility rentals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Directs and supervises program and rental activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establish new and expand existing activities within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance. Complies with all Department of Health and Environmental Control standards.
- Conducts lifeguarding, swimming instruction, First Aid, and CPR training.
- Create and schedule swimming classes, water fitness classes, and other aquatic activities.
- Coordinates facility rentals, including scheduling renters, administering agreements, scheduling staff, ensuring setup / clean-up.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of programs and rental information.
- Develops and monitors departmental budgets to meet fiscal objectives.
- Organizes and participates in Y activities, such as staff meetings, trainings, special events, and fundraising.
- Models’ relationship-building skills and active listening in all interactions. Responds to
all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner. - Compiles relevant statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation
in programs and activities. - Remains current in required and voluntary certifications and trainings.
- Periodically serves as the manager on duty in the evenings and on weekends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum age of 21.
- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent
- One to two years' related experience preferred.
- Certifications required within 60 days of hire: CPR, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen.
- Ability to complete the following courses before the 1st work shift: Child Abuse Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens, Athlete Protection, and Sexual Harassment training.
- Completion of YMCA aquatics training and trainer certifications.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Passion for the YMCA mission and commitment to serving the community.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to perform all the physical requirements of the position; including walking, standing, bending, reaching and lifting up to 50lbs at a time.
