Job Summary/Responsibilities:
This is an entry level part-time position assisting with park maintenance, youth and adult education programs, some eco-adventure gear & trips(as needed), and office duties. This position requires a dedicated and creative person to assist with all manner of operations at the UNF Wildlife Sanctuary. This position entails working independently both in and out of the office, finding solutions to minor problems and interacting with the public, school children and UNF students with a positive attitude. Assist & Lead Environmental Education programs
Nature Trail Duties: Patrolling property, trimming, repair to boardwalks & picnic tables etc., litter, special projects, digging holes, planting, using hand tools and some power tools.
Office Duties:
Entering data, answering phones, copying worksheets, pencils, voicemail and email
General cleaning & maintenance of facilities
Curriculum development: editing current programs, making new programs
Organize and assist with Eco-Adventure programs
Special programs: night hikes, off-site environmental events, outreach…
Required Qualifications & Skills:
High School Diploma, Driver’s License, Positive Attitude
Can follow written or verbal instructions.
Can communicate effectively with staff and public in writing or verbally.
CPR & First Aid Certified (can be accomplished within first 60 days of work)
Comfortable in nature and enjoys sharing the natural world with others
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
Area of study coincides with work (i.e. education, science, psychology or recreation as major)
Knowledge or Experience with: local flora & fauna, education, UNF, Jacksonville, public speaking, advanced medical training, park ranger or naturalist
Walking or running (at least 1 mile) on uneven terrain, bending, lifting a weight of at least 50 lb.
Working indoors and outdoors in heat, sun, wind, rain & cold.
Working near animals, plants, and insects that can bite, sting or poison (i.e. natural outdoor areas)
Remain calm and think logically when others around you are not.
Especially during first-aid and emergency circumstances.
Study and memorize program, natural history and Chain of Command information.
