Basis Purpose of Position:

The Staff Accountant’s primarily responsibility is to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the businesses financial position through assisting in the preparation of financial statement reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the preparation & processing of periodic journal entries and account reconciliation (including bank statement reconciliation), the completion of Accounting memos as needed, the updating and documentation of accounting oriented standard operating procedures (SOP) and the assisting in the planning and completion of the annual year-end external audit.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Completion of required journal entries on a periodic basis, ensuring proper documentation and the adherence to GAAP.
  • Completion of period-end substantive balance sheet account reconciliation (including bank reconciliation) with an emphasis of identifying & correcting reconciling items in a timely manner
  • The documentation of standard operating procedures ensuring appropriate controls and efficiencies are in place and being adhered to by department
  • Perform period-end closing functions ensuring the timely release of accurate periodic financial statements, analysis and reconciliation.
  • The review of unit level P&L reports (Restaurant, G&A cost centers, etc.) ensuring that the period/quarter and year-end statements are accurate and in accordance with GAAP
  • Research and prepare documentation on complex accounting transactions ensuring their accuracy and Accounting regulation compliance
  • Assist in the completion of our annual audits with our external auditors

 

Secondary Job Functions:

  • Maintain a basic knowledge of computer systems and City Barbeque policies and procedures
  • Understanding and following of a philosophy congruent with City Barbecue’s culture
  • Other project, tasks, duties, etc. based on department/business initiatives

 

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university (Accounting or Finance degree required)
  • 2-4 years’ experience in a /training or equivalent combination of education and experience preferably in a restaurant, retail or other multi-unit environment
  • Strong skill level in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
  • Experience in ERP systems a plus
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and perform multiple concurrent and diversified tasks

 

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.  Ability to write business reports and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to question from management, store personnel, customers and regulators.

 

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to work mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, IRR, ROA, ROIC, etc.   Ability to interpret the meaning of change in such mathematical and financial measures

 

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

Computer Skills:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of products & ERP financial reporting systems
